abstract
  • The Judaization of Jerusalem (Arabic: تهويد القدس‎, tahweed il-quds; Hebrew: יהוד ירושלים‎, yehud yerushalaim) refers to the view that Israel has sought to transform the physical and demographic landscape of Jerusalem to correspond with a vision of a united and fundamentally Jewish Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty. The question of whether there is an Israeli government policy for the Judaization of Jerusalem is a matter of debate. Some scholars like Oren Yiftachel, Moshe Ma'oz and Jeremy Salt claim that is has been the policy of successive Israeli governments since 1967. Others, like Justus Weiner and Dan Diker, have objected to the entire notion, claiming that the lack of any significant change to the demographic balance of the city undermines suggestions that it is government policy and renders any such discussions moot.
