She was a talented card player. On her 104th birthday, it was revealed that her eyesight had detoriated. On the occasion of her 108th birthday, she said that the secret to her longevity was being with people. She also had a positive outlook on life. Bearce enjoyed listening to music and dancing. She died on 12 October 1991, at the age of 110 years, 212 days.
