  • Originally, you could only acquire a wand on Pottermore after exploring the first 5 chapters and completing the Diagon Alley mission.
  • Note that magic wands can also autocast the basic elemental spells. As with all spells, they are all cast once every 5 ticks (or 3 seconds), regardless of what staff or wand you use.

Most people find that their homemade wands work better than manufactured wands -- and they are considerably less expensive. • Wands are One-Handed, so they can be used together with a shield, and they fire every turn. Unlike normal weapons these weapons can fire at distance. Wands cause Fire, Death or Energy damage depending upon the wand. A benefit of this is that every hit causes damage and the damage is not mitigated by the creature's armor. The drawback is that some creatures are immune to these types of damage and with the high level wands you can run out of mana very quickly if you hunt without stop for a while.

Wands are activated using the 'z'ap command; this command will prompt the player to pick a wand to use, and depending on configuration settings may ask if the player wants to zap a wand in the PC's hand first. PCs with favorable luck can occasionally wrench a final charge out of a wand that has no charges left, which will activate the wand one last time before destroying it. Wands may also become broken, thus becoming useless until the PC uses a scroll of repair to fix it.

Wands are activated using the 'z'ap command; this command will prompt the player to pick a wand to use, and depending on configuration settings may ask if the player wants to zap a wand in the PC's hand first. Wands have a finite number of charges, but can be recharged by certain means (unless otherwise noted). They can be recharged by reading scrolls of charging, or by dipping them in potions of mana, boost mana or booze; in all cases, the number of charges restored increases along with the item's B/U/C status. Potions of mana restore the most, followed by boost mana and scrolls, followed by booze. Wizards can recharge a wand using their level 32+ class power, though this has costs and risks involved (see the corresponding article). PCs with favorable luck can occasionally wrench a final charge out of a wand that has no charges left, which will activate the wand one last time before destroying it. Wands may also become broken, thus becoming useless until the PC uses a scroll of repair to fix it.

Wands are lootable from a variety of magically-inclined monsters, so (as with any equipment purchase) remember to search around and look for wands sold by players which will be at far lower prices than those on offer by the merchant NPCs. Charged Wands could be made until Summer Update 2017. They were later merged into their respective base weapons which had become imbuable.
