| abstract | - The Second Sith Empire, also informally called Revan's Sith Empire, was founded by the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Revan and his apprentice Darth Malak. The Empire was a dark side organization that stood in direct opposition to the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order, and it was built upon a core of veterans from the Mandalorian Wars and a group of converts from the Jedi Order. The Empire nearly succeeded in conquering the Republic during the Jedi Civil War through its use of the Rakatan Star Forge captured by Revan and Malak years earlier, though a redeemed Revan located and helped to destroy the Star Forge and also killed Malak, who had become the Dark Lord of the Sith after Revan left the Empire. The remnants of the Empire gathered under a Sith Triumvirate during the Second Sith Civil War, and after the deaths of those three leaders the Empire splintered into factions. Although there were smaller groups of Sith in opposition to one another, there were two splinter groups that were said to have been the only ones who could have succeeded in taking over the Empire. These factions were led by Darth Avidus and Darth Midknight and they entered into a civil war for one another for years, though they were later contacted by Darth Alumnus who united them under the banner of the Third Sith Empire, with Alumnus himself as the Dark Lord of the Sith. The Third Sith Empire remained in existence for nearly one hundred years.
