abstract
  • The Wicked Mace (Jashin no Mace/Mace of the Wicked God in Japan) is a mace found in Golden Sun. It is located on the seventh floor of Crossbone Isle, and so cannot be gained until the party gains the Carry Stone. Being a mace, it can be equipped by Isaac, Felix, Garet, Sheba, Mia, and Piers. The Wicked Mace increases the wielder's attack by 130. Its Unleashed power is Poison Death (Death Poison in Japan, but note that when the Unleash is performed in battle in the first Golden Sun, the game names it "Deadly Poison" while it is "Poison Death" everywhere else in both games), which adds another 53 damage points, converts the damage from physical to Venus, and attempts to inflict venom on the target. It has the standard base unleashing rate of 35%. Deadly Poison appears as the mace strike creating a cloud of gold-red liquid. The Wicked Mace is also cursed, meaning that if the wielder isn't also wielding the Cleric's Ring, there is a chance that he/she might not be able to act in a given turn, and must go to a sanctum and pay a healer to unequip it. It can be bought for 13800 coins and sold for 10350 coins. At first glance, it would seem to be inferior to the Demon Axe, even though the Axe can be gained without the Carry Stone (the Axe's base attack and added unleashed attack are each two points more than those of the Mace). However, there are still many players who prefer the Mace, simply because the venom it inflicts is more powerful than the simple poison inflicted by the Demon Axe. In addition, unlike the Demon Axe, the Wicked Mace can be wielded by Mia. In fact, of all the weapons in the first Golden Sun that she can wield, the Wicked Mace has the highest attack score, making it a good choice for her if the player chooses to let her wield cursed equipment, especially if she is in a class that requires Venus Djinn (in Golden Sun's case, Druid (Mercury), Medium, and White Mage). Its usefulness drops markedly by the time it can be accessed in The Lost Age, however.
