  • The or is a form of hand-to-hand combat invented by Ayumi Mizushima. It is a taijutsu style that is based on the principles of meeting and blending with an attacker’s movements, with the aim being to control the actions of both the practitioner and opponent while using minimal effort. Ayumi's inspiration in creating the style came after observing the way water moved around her when submerged, gently pulling and pushing her and redirecting her own movements to flow with the current. It is a soft martial art, focused on redirection and yielding motions as opposed to direct force. While some offensive actions are included in the style, typically it is necessary for the adversary to attack the practitioner first in order to set-up a counter. In order to do this successfully, one must first understand the rhythm and intent of an adversary in order to find the optimal timing and position to affect a counter-technique. As a result, it is extremely beneficial if the user possesses mastery over their own chakra, as well as a basic level of chakra sensitivity. Reciprocating Fist is primarily concerned with employing flexibility and pliancy in redirecting an opponent’s attacks, and the concept of the harmless receiving and redirection of an attack is key. Mastery of oneself both spiritually, mentally, and physically is of prime importance, and in the theoretical ideal resolution neither the receiver nor the attacker is harmed. Physical training in the Reciprocating Fist is diverse, covering both general physical fitness and conditioning as well as specific techniques, and safe falls and rolls are emphasized, as well as methods to improve one's reflexes and sense of balance. Grabbing, throwing, and pinning opponents are frequently employed, and while such maneuvers may seem aggressive, they in reality focuse on controlled relaxation, correct alignment and movement of the joints and spine, flexibility, and endurance, with less emphasis on strength or force. As such, it emphasizes the use of coordinated whole-body movement and balance, and the result, while possessing a firm foundation and lacking in dynamic aesthetics, is rather graceful and smooth in the end.
