Synopsis
  • While taking a break from painting from a live nude model, Kyle Rayner (Green Lantern) is whisked away from his apartment and hammered by a gigantic fist. Meanwhile, Superman is attending the ceremony for the maiden voyage of the S.S. Lara, a ship named after his mother. , who has recently quit the Daily Planet, is covering the story for Cat Grant on WGBS. A giant robot suddenly rises from the water, dropping an unconscious Green Lantern into the water. While Superman checks to see that his fellow hero is okay, the robot seizes the Lara and flings it -- passengers and all -- into the air. GL catches the ship while the Man of Steel engages the metal menace. One by one, Superman's abilities phase out, and Psi-Phon and Dreadnaught reveal themselves as the true villains. Convinced that Dreadnaught has siphoned enough power to him, Psi-Phon now attacks Superman in person. Superman suggests that he and Kyle switch places, since these villains have never tried to steal a Green Lantern's power before. During the battle, Jimmy's transmission cuts out, prompting Cat to run a WGBS special on the origin of Superman, hosted by Steve Lombard. With a two-pronged attack, GL creates a second giant robot to tackle the first, and takes out Psi-Phon and Dreadnaught. Superman's powers return, and the giant robot is revealed to be a being freed from imprisonment in the Earth by Superman. It was betrayed by the two villains, and then used by them to take revenge on the Man of Steel. Lantern holds the villains in an energy bubble while they wait for the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit to arrive.
