abstract | - NovgorodZemlya was originally founded when a band of former soldiers, wandering in confusion after a bloody civil war, found a cluster of abandoned estates on the River Solzha. At the urging of intrepid young rebel Sevastjan Ruslanovich Chajkov, they dismantled the mansions, sold the proceeds, and built homesteads on the land. The soldiers surreptitiously brought their family members and remembered comrades to live with them there (owing to the nation's overwhelmingly large military presence), and through many different forms of coercion (mostly money, sometimes violence, and a good deal of fear over being caught up in the bloodbath once the surrounding nations catch wind of the Zemlen appropriation of their land) expanded their land mass to close to forty miles along the river and have now declared themselves a sovereign nation. The nation currently consists of a ragtag bunch of rebels and their loved ones, as well as some war refugees. They are primarily of Caucasian and Cossack descent and are led by the young and handsome but charismatic Sevastjan Chajkov. He was jokingly called "Tsarevich" ("Prince") because everyone in the small city-state knows him by his first name. However, although the city-state is officially and happily Communist, he was given the official title Tsarevich Sevastjan Prekrasnyj I by a visiting Cossack emissary, who was overjoyed to see what he took for as a developing tsardom in the Caucasus. Because of his influence, the military of NovgorodZemlya is officially referred to as the Cossack Guard, although many of her soldiers are of Russian, Georgian, or Chechen descent. Tsarevich Sevastjan Prekrasnyj I declared the nation's official religion to be Islam, although there is a sizable Eastern Catholic minority and the governmental procedure is secular.
