In interviews she says she remembers seeing legends such as Andre The Giant, Hulk Hogan, and "Macho Man" Randy Savage. As a teenager, Summer didn't put much thought into wrestling. But after going to a local show with her father, who was wrestling, she began to get into it. After graduating high school Summer decided to become a wrestler. She trained with her godfather, Larry Zbyszko, for almost a year before heading to Pennsylvania. She wrestled locally throughout the state as Summer Marie until she was signed by WrestleViewWrestling.
