Ashbrook's final race came in 1970, when Ashbrook tried to make the Daytona 500 by competing in the qualifier event at Daytona. Starting 29th in the field of thirty-one, Ashbrook fell a few laps down but drove to a respectable 20th place finish. Unfortunately, Ashbrook was uanble to make the 500 field as a result and never made another NASCAR race.
