Cleveland debuted during the 1950 season, when he competed at the prestigious Daytona Beach Road Course. Despite a broken wheel late in the race, Cleveland had a fine go of it as he emerged from the forty-one car field with a 15th place finish. He also competed at the race a few weeks later in Charlotte, managing a 17th place showing. Cleveland only competed in one 1951 race, when he competed at Columbia. Starting positions in the field of thirty-four are unknown, but it was actually a tough day for the driver as he struggled to 28th. Cleveland's best season would come during the 1952 season, when he competed in five races to finish 56th in points. He started off the season extremely strong, churning out a 4th place run at Augusta and then following that up with a 9th place run at Charlotte in his next start. But another top-ten run was deterred late at Weaverville, when Cleveland finished in 13th with a broken rear end gear. And from there Cleveland struggled to close out the year, finishing 45th at Darlington and 26th after an early DNF at Macon. Cleveland's last two races came during the 1953 season, and unfortunately they both turned out to be struggles for the driver. A last place (34th) finish marked the earlier race at North Wilkesboro, while a struggling 22nd at Charlotte would prove to be Cleveland's last start.
