| abstract | - Jerold Wells (born Gerald Walls on 8th August, 1908 in London, died 19th July, 1999) played Ted Ashley on Coronation Street in 1964. He moved to Australia as a child where he began his working life as an ironmonger but then went to drama school in Sydney. He moved back to the UK in the 1950s. His other credits include ITV Television Playhouse , Emergency-Ward 10 , Great Expectations (a 1959 television adaptation in which he played the part of Magwitch), Bootsie and Snudge, BBC Sunday-Night Theatre , Dixon of Dock Green , Till Death Us Do Part , Man in a Suitcase, Z Cars, The Two Ronnies, Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width , Whodunnit?, The New Avengers, Softly Softly: Task Force , A Fine Romance and The Benny Hill Show.
