The bay has boulders around the edge, and is too deep for humans to swim to the bottom. In Beyond the Kingdoms, Alex, Conner, Mother Goose, Lester, and Red travel into the story and into Neverland in persuit of the Masked Man. They are accompanied by the Tin Woodman from Oz. They meet Peter Pan, who quickly joins their cause. When they find the Masked Man, he escapes into a new fictional world through a portal book, which he then drops into Pirates Bay. Alex and Conner need the mermaids help to retrieve the book. They negotiate a trade; in return for retrieving the book, the Lost Boys have to promise not to fish in Mermaid Lagoon anymore. The deal is struck, the book retrieved, and the twins and their friends follow the Masked Man into the story of Alice in Wonderland.
