  • Sidra Valerian was a human female serving in Earth's Starfleet in the 22nd century. In 2156, Valerian held the rank of ensign and served as communications officer aboard the Columbia. Following an attack by the Romulans, the Columbia used it's impulse engines to make a dangerous journey using time dilation, to reach the nearest class M planet. Valerian was part of the landing party to the planet Erigol that made first contact with the Caeliar race. After efforts by other members of the the team to use the Caeliar's technology to return the Columbia to it's original time went badly wrong, the city of Axion was relocated in time to the year 1519. (ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night) After being informed that there was no way to return to her own time, Valerian slowly became mentally unstable, requiring constant care from Johanna Metzger. After Metzger committed suicide in 1573, Valerian's condition worsened and she sank into a coma. Wishing to find a way to heal her friend, Captain Erika Hernandez allowed the Caeliar to perform an experimental procedure on her, linking her with the Caeliar communal gestalt. The procedure failed and Valarian died on the operating table while Hernandez and Veronica Fletcher looked on. (ST - Destiny novel: Mere Mortals)
