Samples' busiest year was in 1952, when he finished 30th in points. It was a good year for Samples, recording four top-tens in eight starts. He was the runner-up at Atlanta, 3rd at Macon, 9th at Palm Beach and 10th at Augusta. Even when he wasn't in the top-ten, Samples had a solid year anyway, finishing no worse than 27th at Daytona Beach and Jacksonville. Samples' final career race came in 1954, when he competed at Daytona Beach again. Starting 12th in the field of sixty-two, Samples just kept out of trouble and wound up with a solid 17th place effort, three laps off the pace.
