She gained critical recognition for her performances in films like Jhankaar Beats, 3 Deewarein, My Brother Nikhil and Bas Ek Pal. Since 2000, Chawla branched out into film production and television presenting as well. She is married to industrialist and they are the co-owners of the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders in partnership with Shah Rukh Khan under their company Red Chillies Entertainment.
