Synopsis
  • King Shark tries to chow down on Superboy in the Glowing Swamp. King Tuftan and Col. Winterbourne open fire on the Shark, but their bullets have no effect. Captain Kerk manages to get Superboy free but is badly injured in the attempt. King Shark goes after the colonel and snaps his gun in half. He would have snapped the colonel in half, too, if not for Superboy. Winterbourne is cut on something in the muck. Tuftan attacks King Shark and gets dragged beneath the water by the monster. SB tries to go after them, but can't find his way. So they turn to Ratsputin who agrees to take them to King Shark's lair in the ruins. Kerk, whose arm is broken, stays behind. Winterbourne finds a piece of metal in the swamp and says that it's his ticket out of all this mess. He explains that he crashed an experimental jet fighter on the island, that's how he was captured. Superboy surmises that King Shark must be one of the Wildmen. Back at Cadmus, Dubbilex confronts the Gene-gnome on where he came from. The little guy explains that he was created by Simyan and Mokkari, but they were cruel and evil masters so he escaped. He says that he and Dubbilex are kindred spirits and should work together. Dubbilex joins Guardian and senses that his old friend doesn't trust him. The Gene-gnome accompanies him, sitting invisible on Dub's shoulder. Guardian recovers some old German glove and when he puts it on, he undergoes a strange metamorphosis. The ruins are littered with junk, including the remains of the Blackbird Jet. Tuftan escapes to that chamber with Llarry and Llouise, but King Shark is right on their heels. Ratsputin tries to trap them--and a huge tentacle grabs hold of him. Superboy battles King Shark back, though it's a standoff until Winterbourne manages to power up the Blackbird. He uses the point of the plane to impale King Shark. SB manages to get everyone out before the whole ruin collapses with the exploding jet. As the company recovers in Roam, Tuftan believes that he should establish some outposts to guard the swamp. All are angered at Nosferata for not sending a rescue team. Just then, the team gets a call from Cadmus calling them back immediately. Tawna calls a company of rebels and plans to mount a revolution against Nosferata--and perhaps the monarchy itself!
