  • Titan was the location of many colonies from the United Americas and Three World Empire, among others. The installation of a colony on Titan by the United Kingdom was one of the pillars in the formation of the Three World Empire.
  • Titan (or Sol VIa) was a moon located in the space of the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant, the largest moon in orbit of the planet Saturn, sixth planet in the Sol star system in sector 001, at coordinates 2.09S 5.26W. It is the second largest satellite in the Sol system, the only such body to have a dense atmosphere, and is larger than some planetary bodies in the solar system. The atmosphere was considered "thick" due to its mainly being nitrogen. Titan has liquid methane lakes and a surface temperature of -259 degrees Fahrenheit. The Federation starships USS Titan were named for this moon. (TOS - Starfleet Academy novel: The Gemini Agent; TTN novel: Taking Wing; Last Unicorn RPG module: A Cadet's Guide to Sector 001 Earth)
  • In 3010, the Time Institute was relocated to Titan. With their new Time Viewer, they attempted to look back in time to the beginning of the universe. After seeing the Giant Hand, Titan was ravaged and then destroyed by the resulting energies. (Legion of Super-Heroes: "The Choice")
  • Titan is the sixth ellipsoidal moon from Saturn. Frequently described as a planet-like moon, Titan has a diameter roughly 50% larger than Earth's moon and is 80% more massive. It is the second-largest moon in the Solar System, after Jupiter's moon Ganymede, and it is larger by volume than the smallest planet, Mercury, although only half as massive. Titan was the first known moon of Saturn, discovered in 1655 by the Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens, and was the fifth moon of a planet apart from the Earth to be discovered.

This is because the Chapter operates in oppressive secrecy, beyond the knowledge of the Adeptus Terra and even often of the Imperium of Man's ruling High Lords of Terra. As a part of the Ordo Malleus, the Grey Knights are answerable only to the Inquisitor Lords of that division of the Inquisition and the Emperor of Mankind Himself. Even the location of the Grey Knights' fortress-monastery on Titan is known only to the Ordo Malleus and its agents. Titan itself is surrounded by the rings of Saturn and the other moons of the gas giant which are all highly-secret Inquisition-controlled worlds, including: Mimas, the prison and execution centre of the Ordo Malleus, Enceladus, the home of the most powerful Inquisitor Lords of the Ordo Malleus and other influential Inquisitors of that Ordo, and several other satellite worlds all dedicated to the highly secret Imperial task of confronting the corruption of Chaos across the galaxy.

The moon itself is primarily composed of water ice and rocky material. Much as with Venus prior to the Space Age, the dense, opaque atmosphere prevented understanding of Titan's surface until new information accumulated with the arrival of the Cassini–Huygens mission in 2004, including the discovery of liquid hydrocarbon lakes in the satellite's polar regions. These are the only large, stable bodies of surface liquid known to exist anywhere other than Earth. The surface is geologically young; although mountains and several possible cryovolcanoes have been discovered, it is smooth and few impact craters have been discovered. The atmosphere of Titan is largely composed of nitrogen; minor components lead to the formation of methane and ethane clouds and nitrogen-rich organic smog. The climate—including wind and rain—creates surface features similar to those of Earth, such as sand dunes, rivers, lakes and seas (probably of liquid methane or ethane) and shorelines, and, like on Earth, is dominated by seasonal weather patterns. With its liquids (both surface and subsurface) and robust nitrogen atmosphere, Titan is viewed as analogous to the early Earth, although at a much lower temperature. The satellite has thus been cited as a possible host for microbial extraterrestrial life or, at least, as a prebiotic environment rich in complex organic chemistry. Researchers have suggested a possible underground liquid ocean might serve as a biotic environment. Conditions on the surface could hypothetically support a lifeform that utilizes liquid methane as a medium instead of water; and anomalies in atmospheric composition have been reported which are consistent with the presence of such a lifeform, but which could also be due to an exotic non-living chemistry.
