| abstract | - As part of its ninety-year contract with the Sorakin Joint Military Forces, Delani Defensive Industries developed the then-XM6 assault rifle after the older M1 battle rifle reached the edge of its service life. After a brief consideration period in which an alternate cartridge was chosen, the XM6 was adopted as an experimental weapon and given to serving Sorakin infantry officers. The XM6 performed admirably during land engagements in the Neu Berlin system, gaining notices for reliability and armor-piercing capability. Due to the propensity of HUD-targeting systems, the XM6's lack of an adequate front post was ignored and widely considered to not affect the performance of the weapon. In mid-2534, the XM6 was adopted in the Sorakin military as the M6: Rifle, Model Six, 5.56mm.
