| abstract | - Incredible Tales Of Scientific Wonder was an American science fiction magazine based in New York City that was published in the 1950s. The office of the magazine was in the Arthur Trill Building at 740 Broadway. On April 19, 1953, Benny Russell received a letter from Douglas Pabst, the editor of Incredible Tales, to inform him that his first story for the magazine was to be published soon. (DS9 comic: "When the Stars Come A-Calling") Later in the year, Russell wrote several stories about Benjamin Sisko, an African-American commander of a space station called Deep Space 9. Russell faced opposition from Pabst and the owner of the magazine due to the race of the main character. Although Russell later modified the story to make it about an African-American dreaming about being a space station commander, the owner of the magazine refused to publish it and had the entire issue destroyed. Devastated with the development, Russell suffered a breakdown and was committed to Riverdale Asylum.
