After the party, Mallard confessed his feelings to her, and kissed her, although this resulted in the souring of his friendship with Angus Clarke, her fiancé. She eventually arrived at the train station as he was due to depart, although he ended up leaving without a word. She ultimately married Clarke, although it was clear that their marriage was not a good one, as they rarely talked. By 2014, it became bad enough that she was even preparing divorce papers. Unbeknownst to her, however, her life was threatened by Clarke's protégé, Gareth Godfrey, who was secretly an infamous kingpin in the Albanian mafia, with this being used by Godfrey as leverage to force her husband to allow Godfrey to use his office as a relay point for a prostitution/sex-trafficking ring. Eventually, she became concerned when Clarke had disappeared for four days, which was too long even for him. By that time, she became reacquainted with Donald Mallard, now a medical examiner in NCIS, who returned to the UK to investigate Angus Clarke's role in the death of one of his business associates, and eventually learned from Mallard that Clarke's body was washed up in the river. Eventually, she learned Godfrey's role in her husband's death and his role in a conspiracy during a meeting, with Godfrey implying that he intended to rape her before killing her, although this fortunately never came to pass due to Mallard's knowledge of anatomy resulting in him inflicting a cut on one of his vital arteries. She later reconvened with Mallard near the Thames River after he disappeared on her again, with a heartfelt reunion where he admitted that he still wore the bowtie due to her, and that he never married due to knowing a friend who after losing his family had trouble maintaining a stable family.
