Reluctantly leaving his mother behind, Skywalker accompanied Jinn, Kenobi and Organa to Coruscant, where Jinn persuaded the Jedi High Council to allow Anakin to be trained as a Jedi. Anakin remained on Coruscant while Jinn and Kenobi went to liberate Alderaan from the Trade Federation, where Jinn was killed by the Sith Lord Darth Maul. However, Kenobi fulfilled Jinn's last wish and took it upon himself to train Anakin. The two had many adventures together over the following decade, but when the Separatist Crisis threatened to tear apart the Republic in 22 BBY, Skywalker and Kenobi were assigned to act as security for a peace conference on Alderaan, alongside fifteen other men, one of whom was called Owen Lars, who had seen Anakin win the Boonta Eve Classic on Tatooine and had been inspired by the event to become a pilot. When the conference was attacked by Darth Maul, who had survived his battle with Kenobi a decade earlier, and several dozen battle droids of the Trade Federation, Anakin, with the help of Lars, engaged the Sith Lord and his battle droids, but was easily bested, losing his right arm to Maul's lightsaber. Although Kenobi subsequently engaged Maul, the arrival of the Secretary of Defence, Palpatine, and a contingent of clone troopers, and the ensuing confusion as the clones battled the droids, allowed Maul to escape. Kenobi traveled to Geonosis, in order to follow Dooku, who had left the conference before the attack and who Kenobi suspected of being in league with Maul. Secretly, Anakin and Organa followed, and found Kenobi and Dooku discussing the failure of the attempts at peace and at how there would now, inevitably, be war. At that point, clone troopers arrived and, despite Anakin, Organa and Kenobi's protests, summarily executed Dooku as a traitor to the Republic.
