He was selected in the seventh round, 239th overall, by the Giants in the 2012 NFL Draft, only the second native of Germany to be drafted by an NFL team. The other German native drafted by an NFL team is New England Patriots offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer. Kuhn played college football at NC State. He won in his college career the Camps Sports Bowl in 2010 and the Belk Bowl in 2011.
