  • Shining Soul (シャイニング・ソウル, Shainingu Sōru) is an action role-playing video game for the Game Boy Advance console. It was directed by Akira Ueda and developed by Nextech and Grasshopper Manufacture. Shining Soul was published in Japan by Sega on March 28, 2002, in Europe by Infogrames on March 7, 2003 and in North America by Atlus on September 16, 2003 – in 2006 the game was also reissued in Japan under the "Value Selection" marketing label. The Entertainment Software Rating Board rated the game E for cartoon violence. It is worth noting that Shining Soul was the first video game Grasshopper Manufacture developed to be released to English-speaking audiences, although neither they, nor Nextech, were credited for designing it. On their website, Grasshopper Manufacture deliberately withholds the title of Shining Soul from their resume. While the game is vaguely listed in both Japanese and English, they only supply that it is a Game Boy Advance title released on March 28, 2003, leaving both the game's name and its publisher undisclosed. They do however officially confirm working on the game's sequel, Shining Soul II, and in a June 2006 interview with Grasshopper CEO Goichi Suda, Suda confirms that his team did in fact work on Shining Soul.
