| abstract | - The Stepping Stone Technique (踏み石の術, Fumi Ishi no Jutsu) is a staple practice among those who seek to advance in the ways of the Samurai. One of the staple elements of a Samurai's swordsmanship is their timing. Because their offense is mediated through precision as opposed to speed and force, an inability to properly execute timing can lead to poor wastage of energy and the potential for fatality to increase during battle. The Stepping Stone Technique functions through one's senses, specifically by fully opening one's senses and listening to the movement of an enemy's body, including their heartbeat and breath. In doing so, the user of the technique synchronizes their physical movements with the timing of an enemy's body. Each movement, accordingly, reflects the attack pattern of their enemy with almost no flaws, and any noticeable pattern creates an opportunity that can be quickly seized by the practitioner and launch a powerful offensive retaliation.
