| abstract | - The UT-47 Grizzly (Special Operations Capable) was an armored personnel transport capable of atmospheric and extra-atmospheric operation, principally used by Systems Alliance Navy. It was a specialized variant of the ubiquitous UT-47 Kodiak Drop Shuttle, and was principally employed by the Alliance as a special purpose vehicle used to insert and exfiltrate Special Forces teams from the denied battlespace. Unlike its cousin, the Kodiak, because of its particular mission requirements, the Grizzly was augmented with a mission capability package that provided it with an extensive electronics countermeasure suite to enhance its stealth capabilities, and also limited offensive armament designed to suppress enemy air defenses and to provide covering fire during the extraction of compromised personnel on the surface. The UT-47 series of atmospheric/extra-atmospheric shuttles was named after a variety of species of bears found on Earth of the Ursus genus, such as the UT-47 Kodiak. Accordingly, the UT-47SOC was named "Grizzly" after the Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis).
