- The chapter opens with Ryusuke having a telephone conversation with the American label owner. When he's finished with the phone call, he informs Taira and Chiba that BECK will be debuting in America, although the label is only a minor Indie label. Meanwhile, Koyuki is finally able to purchase the Telecaster. Koyuki tells Saku the next day how he played the guitar all night. He spots a guitar case he's seen in the music room and is astonished to find that it belongs to the girl who works at the doughnut shop near the restaurant where Koyuki is employed. He races to greet her and startles her, causing her to fall down the stairs. Koyuki helps the girl to the nurse's office and they talk. She is amazed that he can play guitar. She introduces herself as Hiromi Masuoka. Koyuki plays her a quick tune on her guitar and sings to her. Later on, Koyuki returns Mr. Saitou's guitar. While he is there, Koyuki notices that Momoko calls Mr. Saitou and they agree to meet up. Koyuki follows Mr. Saitou and is caught spying on the two of them. Momoko explains to Koyuki that Mr. Saitou has been helping her out since she's been having trouble with the rumors going around the school. Later on, Koyuki and Saku see Hiromi at school and Koyuki finds out that she has been fired from her job. Koyuki also finds out that Saku knows her from middle school. He suggests that Koyuki should ask her to come to one of their shows. Meanwhile, Ryusuke sees an article about Belle Ame starting their first national tour. He gives the article to Beck to eat. He is called inside to take an international phone call and the scene switches back to Koyuki who is noticing posters and billboards of Yoshito everywhere. Later on, Koyuki and Maho attend a movie of Jim Walsh's together. Yoshito calls while she's with Koyuki, but she turns down a chance to hang out with actors in favor of attending BECK's upcoming show. Meanwhile at the fishing pond, Ryusuke tells Taira and Chiba that their cd is selling really well in America, however Ryusuke didn't negotiate a royalty contract so they won't be receiving anything. Later on at their show, Hiromi shows up to watch. Yoshito is also in the audience watching the show and both he and Hiromi are shocked by Koyuki's singing talent. After the show, Saku and Koyuki talk to Maho and Hiromi while Ryusuke, Taira, and Chiba head back to Ryusuke's. Taira asks Ryusuke to tell him the story behind his guitar. Ryusuke tells him that he stole the guitar. Ryusuke explains that carjacking was an old hobby of his and Eddie's. In one car they broke into, they found Lucille, Ryusuke's bullet hole filled guitar. Eddie recognized it as the guitar that belonged to Sonny Boy. Ryusuke took Lucille and a small puppy which was Beck. Ryusuke then explains that both Lucille and Beck belong to a dangerous man who is searching for both of them.

- With Kaoru's brewing plan to patch things up for Hikaru, Hikaru and Haruhi have no choice but to go on a date together during their stay in Karuizawa. Hikaru is slightly ticked off about having to escort Haruhi around, and Haruhi is equally puzzled at why Kaoru suddenly caught a cold, but the two decide on having the date anyway. Meanwhile, the Host Club is seen hanging around, surprisingly well-disguised. When Tamaki asks Kaoru what the whole thing is about, Kaoru misunderstands and bluntly responds that they're going to tail the couple, setting Tamaki off into a fit of rage, as he moans about the prospect of Haruhi being on her first date, and how cute she looks with her makeover. Naturally, Tamaki's jealousy makes quite a scene and the Host Club barely avoids detection by Hikaru and Haruhi. To alleviate Tamaki's anxiety, Kaoru explains why he decided to rig the date, stating that Hikaru and himself never really cared about anyone before, but Hikaru is childish and still can't understand his self-centered behavior. Therefore, he wants to use the date to make Hikaru understand his immaturity and learn the basics of human interaction. With that, Kaoru threatens the Host Club, claiming that if they even try to interfere with the date, they're dead. Then, with a touch of typical hypocratic Kaoru, he drags the Host Club along to spy on the date. Ominously, Tamaki takes note of the weather, looking at the storm clouds approaching. Meanwhile, Hikaru and Haruhi are trying to decide where to go for their date. Hikaru's suggestions are bluntly shot down by Haruhi, and the two have trouble deciding where to go. Hikaru finally snaps at Haruhi, who cooly remarks that he's just being snippy and, in an effort to calm down, Hikaru silences himself and sits by Haruhi glumly. Tamaki jealously exclaims that the date is far from romantic, putting up ridiculous suggestions that Kyoya calmly rejects. Mitsukuni decides to take matters into his own hands and walks by the stewing couple dressed up as an old man selling ice cream. Takashi quickly drags Mitsukuni away before the couple realize that the it is, indeed, Mitsukuni and Haruhi promptly goes to buy some ice cream. As Hikaru is about to take a bite from Haruhi's cone, Tamaki, dressed up as the shop owner, quicly shoves Hikaru away and sticks another ice cream in Haruhi's hand, claiming to be generous when in fact, he's only jealous of the "indirect kiss". Haruhi vanishes again, only to turn up buying some pickled yams. This angers Hikaru until Haruhi explains that she wanted to buy something for "sick" Kaoru, and the two decide to go shopping for Hikaru's ill brother. The Host Club comments dryly that after they stopped looking after them so intensely, the couple actually started to get along and have fun. As the couple is shopping, Haruhi suddenly comments nervously that she thought she heard something. Hikaru brushes it off nonchalantly, simply stating that it looks like it might rain. Hikaru asks Haruhi if she wants to go home now and she nods (due to her fear of thunder of which Hikaru is unaware). However, as Hikaru is getting ready to call a taxi, Arai suddenly shows up and offers to take them home. Haruhi, who's getting nervous about the upcoming rain, hastily accepts but Hikaru still feels jealous from his previous encounter with Arai and he runs off angrily. At the pension, the Host Club is wondering about the date, with Mitsukuni worried that they got stranded and Kyoya stating matter-of-factly that they're probably on the way home now. Kaoru suddenly gets a phone call from Hikaru asking for a car and the Host Club is temporarily relieved, until Kaoru inquires about Haruhi. Tamaki grabs the phone in anger and demands to know where Haruhi is and Hikaru, in the midst of his jerk form, simply says that she's probably on the way home now... with Arai. Tamaki orders Hikaru to go back, and when Hikaru tries to brush him off, Tamaki scolds him for his nerve to leave a girl in the rain and caring only for himself. With a spitting remark, Tamaki informs Hikaru that Haruhi is afraid of thunder, leaving Hikaru in shock. Hikaru runs back in alarm, looking around frantically for Haruhi, until he finds a church with an open door. There, here finds Haruhi curled up under a table, crying in fear, and he whips off the tablecloth and wraps it around Haruhi, setting his own headphones on her head. Hikaru wraps Haruhi in a tight embrace, comforting her as she falls asleep. Hikaru carries a sleeping Haruhi back to the pension, and later, Kyoya and Kaoru are shown discussing the events. Kyoya asks Kaoru if he factored in the possibility that Hikaru might fall in love with Haruhi, but Kaoru simply remarks that Hikaru is still to stupid for that. Kyoya agrees, stating that, indeed, the Host Club is full of idiots.
- The Coldest Rain is the 20th chapter of Hiro Mashima's Rave Master. The unrelenting rain forces Haru, Elie, and Plue to take refuge in the gloomy Ska Village, as Griff and Tanchimo chart their course. Elie becomes extremely anxious at the sound of thunder, and Haru checks them in at a local hotel to wait the storm out. The hotel owner and Chino's mother, Lasagna, informs Haru that the rain has not once let up in the last five years, ever since the man who controls thunder moved in. Upon hearing this, Elie suddenly but determinedly charges out into the downpour.
- Red bursts into Erika's gym, Eevee under his arm, shouting for Erika to explain this. He and Bill find the place empty, but Bill sees a scientific report titled "Eevee Reconstruction," which explains that Eevee was experimented on to be able to force its evolutions into all three elemental forms; this was done in order to become a powerful weapon, Erika explains as she appears. She offers Red a gym battle, but Red is furious, shouting that after all she's done to the poor Eevee, he doesn't want her badge. Erika sends out her three Pokémon—Vileplume, Bellsprout, and Tangela —so Red sends out Pikachu, Ivysaur, and Poliwrath. Bellsprout defeats Ivysaur with Vine Whip, hurling him away, so Red attacks it with Poliwrath's DoubleSlap. Bellsprout retaliates with Mimic, slapping back. Red is forced to switch Poliwrath out, now sending out Pikachu, his last Pokémon. Erika withdraws Bellsprout and uses Vileplume, who defeats Pikachu easily with Petal Dance. Red is stunned and crestfallen, realizing that he has lost. Erika tells him that she will battle him again when he stronger, and since he has already earned her respect, he won't need to perform some special task next time, like retrieving Eevee. Reminded of Eevee, Red looks to the healing machine where Eevee, tucked into his pokéball, is resting. Erika tells him that Eevee's wounds are fatal, and as soon as he is released from his pokéball, Eevee will die. The best thing to do would be to just get it over with, rather than prolong Eevee's death, Erika says. She jumps off the field to approach the healing machine. File:Chap20p08Pika.jpg Red is shocked and upset, saying that experimenting on Pokémon and then killing them if the experiment fails is absolutely sick. Red realizes that if he doesn't stop her, Erika will just keep on doing this to more Pokémon. His shout encourages Pikachu to use Substitute, a second body rising from the first and attacking Vileplume; but while this Pikachu distracted Erika, the real Pikachu ran over to where Eevee's pokéball is, planting himself between Erika and Eevee, ready to defend Eevee. Erika is happy and impressed. She praises Pikachu for his compassion and explains to Red that Eevee is perfectly healed; she was only testing him because she'd heard such good things about him from Brock and Misty. She goes on to explain that a few months ago, she had received word that this Eevee had escaped from Team Rocket, and thanks to Red, Eevee is now in safe hands. She tells Red that they need trainers of Red's calibre to stand up against Team Rocket, and she fixes the Rainbow Badge onto his shirt. Red immediately agrees to help. A few days later, he and Eevee set off from Celadon City. Little does he know, but a sinister woman on her Kadabra is watching.
