  • John Jay Doggett was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia. After graduating from high school, Doggett enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and then the Marine Rifleman Course at the School of Infantry at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, he was assigned to a rifle platoon in 1st Battalion 8th Marines. Doggett later went through the basic reconnaissance course and eventually served in a reconnaissance platoon attached to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. He left the Marine Corps after six years of service and went on to the University of Georgia. There, Doggett entered the AB/MPA joint degree program. After graduating from UGA with both a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Administration, he applied to join the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. After passing the selection process, Doggett went on to the GBI Basic Agent Course at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia. Upon completing the course, he was sworn in as a GBI special agent and assigned to the Thomson Regional Office. Three years afterwards, Doggett began pursuing a career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Before he could join the Bureau, he had to go through the FBI application and hiring process, which included a physical fitness test, a background investigation, and a medical examination. After successful completion of the background investigation, Doggett left the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and went on to attend the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Upon graduating from the Academy, he was sworn in as an FBI Special Agent and assigned to the Washington Field Office as a member of a violent crimes squad. Two years into his FBI career, Doggett was assigned to a unit outside the Bureau mainstream called the X-Files project. Located in a former copier room in the basement of FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., this two-person unit is more or less concerned with unexplained phenomena. Special Agent John Doggett investigates cases that involve inexplicable, possibly "paranormal" events.
