The disease was a fatal one and Hodin's daughter's blood would be used to spread it among the inhabitants of Gideon to reduce the population.

Although Doctor Leonard McCoy was able to cure Odona, she still infected her people. She was returned to her planet, and Hodin's plan proved to be successful.
