- Maelstrom (メイルストローム / メイルシュトローム Meirusutoroomu / Meirushutoroomu?) is a high-tier spell of the Water or Sea element, depending upon the title in which it appears, that summons a whirlpool to inflict intense damage, often scoring multiple hits.
- At the center of the Maelstrom is a location known as the Eye. The empires of the makrura and the naga lie beneath it. In Warcraft III, when Thrall's fleet crashed, they made an emergency landing on an island near the Maelstrom where they found a group of trolls fighting desperately against human colonists and murloc invaders. The island was destroyed (though not by the Maelstrom), with Thrall barely escaping. It is implied that the Maelstrom is slowly drawing the Broken Isles towards itself, and will ultimately destroy them for good.
- Maelstrom is a Gaia-Titan that resembles a djinn. His torso resembles that of a green-skinned human while his lower portion is like a tornado of whirling winds, much like that of Powerbonded Ariel using his Hyperstrike ability. Maelstrom's Amulet is in the possession of Dante Vale.
- An AoE (Area of Effect) Lightning attack.
- She is voiced by Hisako Kanemoto in the Japanese version of the anime and Brittney Karbowski in the English version.

- Maelstrom was originally introduced with the announcement of the second City of Heroes expansion, Going Rogue. Described in the Going Rogue press release as "a pistol-wielding hero gone rogue," he appears to be a technologically augmented human who wields two pistols as his offensive capabilities. Heroes find him in:
* Destroy the Bomb Triggers Tip Missions Praetorians find him in:

- The Maelstrom is a vehicle in Saints Row 2.
- Maelstrom is the General of Mainframe's drone army. A near perfect replica of Mainframe, he is virtually indestructible, capable of handily defeating hundreds of opponents without strain.
- Maelstrom sind ein Nutzgegenstand aus DotA und Dota 2.
- Maelstrom is a Tier 1 skill on Athena's Ceraunic Storm skill tree, and one of two skills mandatory for continuing further down the skill tree.
- Maelstrom is a powerful technique where multiple large baangs surround and converge in on the target to inflict damage. When Baam used this technique against Hoaqin, he deployed it with 8 baangs which was enough to occupy Hoaqin long enough for Baam to continue his descent unhindered.
- Maelstrom was a Human Grey Jedi that achieved the rank of Grand Reaper within the Grey Jedi Order.
- Maelstrom is a term used by Wraiths to describe a storm in the Tempest. Originally singular events, Maelstroms are now the basic state of the Tempest - although they occasionally become more severe, being known as Great Maelstroms.
- Mælstrom is a recurring water-based offensive skill, comparable to the wind-based Tornado, dealing circular AoE water damage. It also has a strong displacement effect, attracting objects to its center.
- 5th-level evocation Casting time: 1 Action Range: 120 feet Components: V, S, M (paper or leaf in the shape of a funnel) Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute A mass of 5-foot-deep water appears and swirls in a 30-foot radius centered on a point you can see within range. The point must be on the ground or in a body of water. Until the spell ends, that area is difficult terrain, and any creature that starts its turn there must succeed on a Strength saving throw or take 6d6 bludgeoning damage and be pulled 10 feet toward the center.
- Maelstrom was a boat cruise and traditional film attraction in the Norway pavilion at Epcot's World Showcase. Visitors rode boats that were patterned after Viking ships and passed through scenes with audio-animatronic figures. The attraction featured a 28 foot drop near the climax of the boat ride. Maelstrom closed permanently on October 5, 2014 and was replaced by Frozen Ever After in 2016.

- Maelstrom is a unique Yew Wand from Diablo II. Keeping in mind the Lightning Damage and Resist that gives Maelstrom its name, Maelstrom is a good early wand for Necromancers that specialize in curses. Iron Maiden and Amplify Damage are particularly good skills, and Corpse Explosion is useful at any difficulty level. Still, there are other, higher level unique wands that are worth more than Maelstrom.
- A maelstrom is a very powerful whirlpool; a large, swirling body of water. A free vortex, it has considerable downdraft. The most notable was the massive maelstrom created by the sea goddess Calypso.
- Maelstrom (メイルシュトローム) is a very powerful water based attack from Romancing SaGa 2. It is the signature move of Subier. When fought, he always starts the battle with this move, which hits everyone in the party. The only one who is completely immune to this powerful attack is the Nereid.

- Maelstrom is a one-off multi-player role-playing fantasy gamebook written by Alexander Scott, and illustrated by Anthony Kerins and Jane Walmsley. Maelstrom was published by Puffin in 1984 (ISBN 0-14-031811-9) under the Adventure Gamebooks banner, which also covered the more popular Fighting Fantasy and the related Sorcery! series, as well as the Starlight Adventures and the trilogy of the Cretan Chronicles. Maelstrom has been republished as a PDF in 2008 by Arion Games, under license from Puffin Books.
- Maelstrom is a wedge-shaped invertable robot that competes in the Roaming Robots events today, it was built as St. Agro for Robot Wars Series 6 where it got beaten in the first round and managed to make the semi-finals of Series 7, only to be beaten by X-Terminator. In 2008 St Agro was sold to Team Shock who rebuilt and renamed it to what it is now - Maelstrom. Maelstrom's weapon is a double-sided flipper which is one of the only ones that can work both-ways up, which is good as it doesn't need to use up gas to self-right. Maelstrom has done very well since Team Shock bought it having won the best promising Newcomer Award in 2008, finishing runner-up in the 2009 & 2012 UK Championships and 4th in the 2010 UK Championships. In Series 8 it failed to qualify along with Manta.
- Volume Nine: Maelstrom is the ninth volume of Legacies.
- Maelstrom is a Female Fury from Apokolips who fell in love with Darkseid. To win his favor, she went to Earth via a Boom Tube to kill Superman and deliver his head to Darkseid. However, she met Supergirl instead, who she fought.
- Maelstrom features three new races inspired by established science-fiction properties:
* The Norlamin are hyper-intelligent humanoids with enlarged craniums; they were inspired by the Skylark series by E. E. "Doc" Smith. They have highly-advanced technology due to their mastery of matter-energy conversions. They are relatively pacifistic, lacking a planet-bombing frigate and any weapon-damage upgrades, but have the ability to reduce the resource cost of their research topics to negligible levels.
* The Replicators are taken from stargate and a cybernetic empire, assimilating races in a manner similar to the Borg from Star Trek. Their ships are quite powerful, and many of them have a new ability, "Replicate Forces," which allows them to clone themselves at no resource cost. They have
- Below the main deck sits a labyrinth of passageways, sewer lines, holding cells and slaves’ quarters. An entire subculture exists within the bowels of this monstrous vessel. A small armada can be released for ship-to-shore activity, and for negotiating waterways where The Maelstrom would never fit. In the center of this death vessel dwells the dreaded Constrictus. This massive water beast sports four tentacle-like heads, each with a set of savage jaws. Being eaten by the Constrictus would be compared to jumping into a meat grinder. This beast is in the heart of the ship, its deadly core.
- "Speed, Power, and Attitude define the realm of Hot Wheels. One of the finest examples of these characteristics can be seen in the Maelstrom. Twin V-8 engines power the many curves of this wild ride with large scoops to pull in power giving air. Side vents and twin rear pipes quickly remove the exhaust from the firing of those 24 cylinders. The single seat cockpit allows for just one lucky soul to take the ride of their life at a time. Wouldn't you like to wait in that line?" I know I sure would!
- Maelstrom is one of Liquid Ocelot's experiments and one of his lieutenants. He was originally a Vortixx who was captured by Liquid Ocelot and fused with a robot, which caused him to assume his present form. Thirty-two thousand years later, he found out who was responsible for the capture of Liquid Ocelot: Zev Raregroove and Blackout, and decided to get revenge on them, and headed for Judoon, where he was captured and sent to Impel Down.
- Maelstrom is a 1993 clone of with an improved graphics and interface. It was created by Andrew Welch, president of Ambrosia Software which released it, and led to the formation of that company. Many of Ambrosia's subsequent shareware titles followed in a similar formula. More recently, Ambrosia Software gave the source-code away to Sam Lantinga, who created a GPL port that runs on many operating systems, such as Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.
- Located near the dense stellar masses of the galactic core in a near linear path between the core and Terra, the Maelstrom covers an area many hundreds of light years across, and its presence in space is marked by a vast, slowly turning gyre comprised of nebulae, dust and stellar material in which countless stars and worlds have long been lost. Although turbulent and unpredictable enough to make any true chart worthless and any hopes of conquering or even patrolling it an insurmountable task, it remains considerably more stable than most other Warp Storms on record, and evidence indicates that it has been in existence since before the evolution of Mankind.
- The Maelstrom is a dark, menacing form of chaos that was created when Baron Typhonus was pulled into the last piece of Pure Imagination in the Temple of the First Builders on Crux in the Nimbus Galaxy. After Doc Overbuild tried to keep the Maelstrom within Crux, the planet exploded into thousands of chunks while the core of Crux transformed into a swirling black hole, the Maelstrom.

- A maelstrom (/ˈmeɪlstrɒm/ or /ˈmeɪlstrəm/) is a very powerful whirlpool; a large, swirling body of water. A free vortex, it has considerable downdraft. The power of tidal whirlpools tends to be exaggerated by laymen. There are virtually no stories of large ships ever being sucked into a maelstrom, although smaller craft are in danger and tsunami-generated maelstroms may even threaten larger craft. Tales like those by Paul the Deacon, Jules Verne and Edgar Allan Poe are entirely fictional.
- Maelstrom and his partner Tearaway were political activists, using terror tactics to attempt to achieve their ends. He, and his partner Tearaway kidnapped Helen Hilton (the future Helen Goodkind) and her older sister Elizabeth when she was six. Tearaway ate Elizabeth in front of the young Helen; she had to be hospitalized for three years for mental trauma after she was rescued. He was eventually captured and restrained by the Mystic Six on June 9, 1963. He's the type case for Diedrick's Syndrome, named by Dr. J. K. Fielding.
- The Maelstrom is a volatile region of space located near Badlands and the Briar Patch, on the edge of Federation, Klingon, and Cardassian territories. However, due to the inhospitable nature of many star systems in the region, no major powers had designs of colonizing the region. By 2378, the Federation had began terraforming the two outermost planets of the Vesuvi system, in order to facilitate the mining of vast mineral sources. A Starfleet science station was also constructed in orbit of Draegos, third planet of the Vesuvi system
- Flagship of the Sith Armada and personal vessel of the Dark Lords, the Maelstrom is one of a kind in the Sith Navy, and in the galaxy at large. While boasting only a fraction of the weaponry and starfighter capacity that ships of equivalent size typically carry, the Maelstrom nevertheless carries an armament sufficient to engage the vast majority of vessels in combat. Its strength however, is not in its weaponry. The Maelstrom features an incredibly powerful defense grid, comprised of six overlapping shield systems and tri-layered, compartmentalized armored plating that, together, rank it among the most durable ships in the galaxy, comparable only to the command ships of New Republic and Imperial fleets. Additionally, a tremendous amount of energy is pumped into the Maelstrom’s 6 high-effi

- The Maelstrom is unarguably the acid trip of the cosmos. This is one one of the two planes that are unarguably infinite, the other being the Abyss. The Maelstrom contains literally every time, terrain and creature. The place constantly shifts and turns. A blue-red jungle may boil away to reveal the most beautiful glowing lake filled with fish that sing classic blues. -The Archmage Speigal
- The Maelstrom is the dark menace spreading chaos and destruction throughout the LEGO Universe. The Maelstrom was created long ago by Baron Typhonus. After creating the Spider Boss to demonstrate the power of Imagination without rules, the chaotic spider turned on him and dragged him into the Imagination Nexus. Their combined chaotic ideals corrupted the Imagination Nexus, mutating it into a powerful Maelstrom. The Maelstrom proceeded to destroy the Venture Koi and fired lightning at the remaining explorers, successfully smashing Duke Exeter. Doctor Overbuild attempted to contain the Maelstrom, but as a result the Maelstrom shattered Planet Crux into countless smaller worlds.
- Plot Survivor Count: 41,400 The episode begins with Starbuck restlessly asleep in her bunk and having a dream in which she finds herself in her apartment on Caprica painting the Eye of Jupiter on her wall. She becomes frustrated and splashes white paint over her artwork as the Cylon Leoben Conoy approaches her from behind. The two begin to aggressively make love until Starbuck awakens, breathing heavily.
- Collectively referred to as the Maelstrom (pronounced MEYL-struhm), vast swathes of uncharted, unclaimed terrain borders and surrounds each of the planes on the Outer Sphere. Mysterious and dangerous wild lands untouched by the gods, these regions lack the cohesive stability present in all of the other planes; even the hellish depths of the Abyss possess a structure that the Maelstrom does not. Rather than some ever-changing sea of randomness, when viewed from the edge of another plane, the Maelstrom appears much like that of its adjacent neighbor. The differences grow more profound further away from the stabilizing anchor of the borderlands, eventually falling back into the mutable freedom of perpetual change. The Maelstrom defies the efforts of mapmakers, as its very character shifts and
- At the center of Polaqu is the fearsome Maelstrom, also known as Ships' Doom, The Sink, and The Whirl, among other epithets. "All currents lead to the Maelstrom" is a truism throughout Polaqu. Sages and philosophers have, down the ages, pondered why the waters of the world appear to converge and drain into the Maelstrom. Speculation often centers on a direct passage to the Plane of Waters, but none can say for sure.
- The term Maelstrom means 'A violent or turbulent situation' and 'A whirlpool of extraordinary size or violence'. Maelstrom is a tall and menacing wrestler who lives in and owns an Aquarium, much of his past life remains a mystery however his obseesion with all things aquatic and water based may make him seem rather unhinged to those he encounters.. His wrestling style consists of using power based moves on the whole, but can use submissions to great affect as well as being fairly agile for a big man. He also uses a variety of mind games to defeat his opponents ranging from simple pyrotechnics and effects to seemingly supernatural abilites such as returning from being eaten by a Great White Shark. This combined with a great resiliance to pain and injury makes Maelstrom one of the best wrest

- Drains health and power over time from the target and nearby encounter members, and converts it into health and power for the defiler's group. It costs power over time to maintain the spell and the defiler cannot move or cast spells, but the spell can be toggled off early if desired.
- With the Maelstrom, versatility is the name of the game. Its defensive capabilities make it ideally suited for small raid groups or solo work, while its 8 turret hardpoints present opportunities for untold carnage on the fleet battlefield.

Additionally, a tremendous amount of energy is pumped into the Maelstrom’s 6 high-efficiency, high-output Ion Engines, giving it superior sublight propulsion, thus allowing it to outrun any vessels that would prove superior in direct combat. Combine this with the six-fold layered hyperdrive system, and the Maelstrom functions personally as the private flagship of the Sith Lords.
- Maelstrom (風切り Kazakiri, lit. Wind Cut) is a skill from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. When activated, it allows its user to inflict damage equivalent to his/her Strength when he/she is attacked indirectly. This skill may only be used by Bird tribe Laguz, excluding Herons.
Later, during Blackout's invasion of Impel Down, Maelstrom was killed when a Rahkshi fired a blast of sonics at him, which severely damaged his brain. His body was then taken on board Darkmount to be studied.
* Even the Odds from Calvin Scott
* Project Olympian from Aaron Walker. Praetorians can learn a lot about Eddie Polstra in the Personal Monster arc from Mr. G.

- Maelstrom is a unique axe in Dragon Age II.
- The Maelstrom is a vehicle in Saints Row 2.
The Maelstrom defies the efforts of mapmakers, as its very character shifts and flows like the tide of an unseen ocean, to which the borderlands are but shores and calm shallows. Crystalline forests melt like candle wax into shallow brine seas with jewel-like icebergs, and then sublimate to vast parched deserts, all within the stretch of days. Still, islands of stability do exist within the depths of the Maelstrom. These islands are ruled by petty gods, exiled fiends, and fallen celestials, and even the rare stronghold of a mortal wizard or priest-king can be found holding itself against the metaphysical lapping tide. Creatures wandering in from the structured planes, long since grown native, populate the Maelstrom's borderlands, often possessing characteristics and behaviors at odds from their origins. Deeper still, chaos beasts, chaos incarna, and the mysterious serpentine proteans thrive within an environment of plastic potentiality. Claiming to be the first children of the Outer Sphere, the keketar, imentesh, and naunet proteans worship the Maelstrom itself and the godlike beings they refer to as the Speakers of the Depths, whom scholars speculate to be something akin to a pair of conjoined gods or a single dualistic entity.
- Maelstrom is the General of Mainframe's drone army. A near perfect replica of Mainframe, he is virtually indestructible, capable of handily defeating hundreds of opponents without strain.
- Maelstrom sind ein Nutzgegenstand aus DotA und Dota 2.
One of the earliest uses of the Scandinavian word (malström or malstrøm) was by Edgar Allan Poe in his story "A Descent into the Maelström" (1841). In turn, the Nordic word is derived from the Dutch maelstrom, modern spelling maalstroom, from malen (to grind) and stroom (stream), to form the meaning grinding current or literally "mill-stream", in the sense of milling (grinding) grain.
Like a modern aircraft carrier, the Maelstrom is equipped with air power in the form of dagrons, pterodactyl-like reptile beasts, semi-trained to carry a rider. These one-seater beasts have been trained to take pirates aloft on raiding missions, but are erratic vehicles at best, sometimes eating their own riders in mid-flight! Noy Jitat! This article is a . The constant generation of random terrain and creatures makes the Maelstrom an unimaginably dangerous place for the living. In addition to more mundane things like vampiric mosquitoes and volcanoes the size of planets the Maelstrom contains it's own native races of shapechangers, who are capable of shifting along with the chaotic terrain, nullifying some of the danger. For those who ended up here in their afterlife, this is a place of pure and total freedom. If you're in tune with the plane and able to roll with it's punches it presents and endlessly fascinating, endlessly exhilarating experience. The Maelstrom has no fixed time or geography, and as such is a haven for powerful arcanists who're on the run. if you're able to find a relatively stable spot and lock it down, you can build a fort that you're infinitely guaranteed that no one will ever find. Why would you want to go there? Because you're completely mad. You will never get a cup of tea again. You'll spend your morning fighting a dinosaur then your lunch running away from a volcano of white-hot diamonds then you'll skip dinner because the goat you just killed and roasted tastes like rhubarb icecream. Wait a moment, that's totally awesome. "Lost among all the excitement is one of the oldest questions of planes and philosophy. "If the Maelstrom and Abyss are essentially infinite, if I travel to a random point in the multiverse, would I be more likely to find myself in the Abyss or Maelstrom?" Put another way, many scholars assume that one plane or the other is "less infinite" or even technically more finite than the other. This is a very important question, especially for one studying planar boundaries and the effects located along these boundaries. The Author strongly holds the opinion that it is the Maelstrom that is infinite, and that the Abyss is just a particularly nasty subsection of it." -The Archmage Speigal

- Maelstrom is a powerful technique where multiple large baangs surround and converge in on the target to inflict damage. When Baam used this technique against Hoaqin, he deployed it with 8 baangs which was enough to occupy Hoaqin long enough for Baam to continue his descent unhindered.
- The Maelstrom is a volatile region of space located near Badlands and the Briar Patch, on the edge of Federation, Klingon, and Cardassian territories. However, due to the inhospitable nature of many star systems in the region, no major powers had designs of colonizing the region. However, following a survey by the USS Hawking, several scientists expressed great interest in studying the Maelstrom and its multiple attributes. One of the most interesting attributes is that many star systems in the Maelstrom have triple the amount of ambient radiation which is found in typical star systems containing habitable, Class M planets. This means that attempts by the Federation to colonize these planets had initially proved unsuccessful. However, in the mid-2370s, technological and scientific advances, such as environmental bio-filters and atmospheric shielding made the terraforming process possible on these planets. By 2378, the Federation had began terraforming the two outermost planets of the Vesuvi system, in order to facilitate the mining of vast mineral sources. A Starfleet science station was also constructed in orbit of Draegos, third planet of the Vesuvi system As well as high ambient radiation, the Maelstrom is full of subspace rifts, quantum destabilization, and high radioactivity. - Maelstrom is a term used by Wraiths to describe a storm in the Tempest. Originally singular events, Maelstroms are now the basic state of the Tempest - although they occasionally become more severe, being known as Great Maelstroms.
- Maelstrom is a 1993 clone of with an improved graphics and interface. It was created by Andrew Welch, president of Ambrosia Software which released it, and led to the formation of that company. Many of Ambrosia's subsequent shareware titles followed in a similar formula. At the time of its release, Maelstrom took full advantage of the Macintosh's multi-media capabilities and broke ground for further developments of the platform in the "anti-productivity software" arena. While quaint by today's standards, Maelstrom is still enjoyed by many players and, for a large group of people, was the first Macintosh game they played. In 1993, Maelstrom received the Shareware Industry Award for Best Game. It was created using THINK C and uses 18,000 lines of C code with 9,000 lines of inline assembler. More recently, Ambrosia Software gave the source-code away to Sam Lantinga, who created a GPL port that runs on many operating systems, such as Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

Ever since then, the Maelstrom has become the primary enemy of the entire LEGO Universe, including regular LEGO villians. Its power has corrupted thousands of minifigs and turned them into its foot soldiers, Stromlings. The Maelstrom's presence in the Milky Way was delayed for years until 2010, when XERRD accessed the Maelstrom to create his Mutant Dinos.
The origins of the Maelstrom started in 2001 when Hot Wheels Director Of Design Nathan Proch, gave Fraser Campbell a design brief to create the ultimate vehicle for the European Hot Wheels market. Hailing from the United Kingdom himself, this was Fraser's first vehicle attempt for the Hot Wheels basic line. His first idea was to have the engines up front and the cockpit over the rear wheels. There was a concern however that it beared too much resemblance to the existing Twin Mill and Twin Mill II castings, so a change was needed. Back at the drawing board and wanting to keep the elements of "big engines, big power, and big attitude", Fraser continued to toss the layout of his design around. Eventually, his final forward cockpit and mid-engined design made it into production as 2001 First Edition car called the Maelstrom. The Maelstrom has been said by some to resemble the Hairy Hauler or the Vulture. It also tends to bear some similarities to the Vector M12. This car made its first appearance in the videogame Hot Wheels: Bash Arena (PC) (2002). It makes a reappearance in the following videogames: Hot Wheels: Velocity X (PC, GBA, PS2, GC) (2002) and Hot Wheels: World Race (PC, GBA, PS2, PC) (2003).
- Maelstrom was a Pliosaur that hunted animals during the ice age. He and Cretaceous are the main antagonists of Ice Age: The Meltdown.
This combined with a great resiliance to pain and injury makes Maelstrom one of the best wrestlers in the EWT today and so far he has had two reigns as EWT Tri-State Champion and one reign as EWT World Champion. Although Maelstrom looks like the kind of guy best avoided he has teamed up with other wrestlers over the years and had success. These teams ah usually short lived though as Maelstrom has a unique view of right and wrong much like the sealife that he associates his life with. If he feels slighted or stabbed in the back he will go to the ends of the ocean to take his revenge as he usually considers things to be black or white, there is no grey. The first anyone heard of Maelstrom was the a series of video showed the power of water with plenty of swirling vortexes. It ended with he words. THE TIDE WILL TURN!
Now a massive black hole where Planet Crux once existed, the Maelstrom spread across the LEGO Universe, seeking to destroy all Imagination and leave chaos in its wake. Baron Typhonus was transformed into the Darkitect, the mastermind behind the Maelstrom's actions. The Maelstrom corrupted many unfortunate denizens of the LEGO Universe into the Darkitect's minions, the Stromlings. The Nexus Force was founded to protect the last source of Pure Imagination from the destructive powers of the Maelstrom. The Paradox faction in particular was created to study the Maelstrom. The Maelstrom was first unveiled in the "Answer the Call" LEGO Universe trailer, in which Stromlings have taken over Zorillo Plaza. To aid the Stromling army in the Battle of Zorillo Plaza, a Maelstrom vortex opens above the plaza and releases several Grumpy Darklings and a Maelstrom Dragon. During the Battle of Nimbus Station based upon this trailer, the Maelstrom has taken over Nimbus Station and blocks off most of the planet chunk with Maelstrom Fog. The Maelstrom's menace led to the mission of the Pods to deliver the LEGO Universe's plea of help to the Blue Planet. However, while passing through the rift between the two universes, MMW4 was unrelentingly pursued by the Maelstrom's energies. The paths of Pods 6 and 7 were altered to avoid the dark menace, although JFR6 was disturbed by the possibility of the Maelstrom passing through the rip. The Maelstrom also appears to have corrupted AJR7 or altered his Mission Log. More details about the Maelstrom were slowly unveiled in the Great Minifig Mission. In Mission 3 and Mission 11, players must complete slider puzzles before the Maelstrom catches up to them. Mission 10 details the Maelstrom's creation, while Mission 12 discusses the origins of the Maelstrom's Stromlings. The Maelstrom sensed Imagination leaking from Engine 2 of the Venture Explorer as the starship was passing over the Maelstrom black hole. It responded by blasting the Venture Explorer with a bolt of lightning, which damaged the spaceship and causes it to become slowly sucked into the vortex. After all the Minifigures aboard are evacuated, the Maelstrom takes over the Venture Explorer. On Avant Gardens, the once-peaceful planet chunk became corrupted by Maelstrom energies unleashed by an explosion at Paradox Research Facility caused by the Spider Queen. Although the Sentinels have managed to contain the Maelstrom energies and prevent them from spreading to the Monument, the area around the Research Facility has become a battlefield occupied by the Stromlings. While the Spider Queen inhabited the Maelstrom Mine, she was protected by a heavy layer of Maelstrom Fog. After the Spider Queen escaped to Block Yard, the Launch Area becomes blanketed with Maelstrom Fog that can only be cleared by smashing the Spider Queen. All Property worlds have been taken over by the Maelstrom and occupied by Stromlings spawned by a Maelstrom Generator. The Maelstrom energies contain the planet chunks' Imagination into large Imagination Orbs. Players must free the Imagination Orbs to cleanse the Properties from Maelstrom, after which they can rent the Property from the local Property Guard. The Maelstrom gained a foothold in Gnarled Forest after greedy Pirates attempted to stockpile Maelstrom Crystals, thinking that they were valuable treasure. The Maelstrom Trench contains so many of these Pirates' Maelstrom Treasure Chests that it has not only corrupted the planet chunk's inhabitants, but the Maelstrom is actually seeping into the land itself, as Renee Tombcrusher once noted. In Forbidden Valley, the Maelstrom possesses Dark Ronin and has taken over the ancient temples and tombs of Cavalry Hill. Paradox studies the Maelstrom energies in the Paradox Refinery, but their Maelstrom experiments unintentionally unleashed Maelstrom Dragons which now preside in Maelstrom Valley. Maelstrom concentrations are at their highest at Crux Prime, which is literally surrounded by a sea of Maelstrom energies. In such high concentration, rather than corrupting and infecting denizens into Stromlings, the Maelstrom can spawn infinite numbers of Stromling Invaders. However, following the completion of Nexus Tower, the Maelstrom's occupation of Crux Prime has significantly weakened, causing fewer Stromling Invaders to spawn. The Darkitect's only known ally, Lord Garmadon, uses the Maelstrom to strengthen his Skulkin armies. The skeletons mine for Maelstrom Ore in the Maelstrom Quarry and fashion it into weapons and armor, which the Skulkins use in the siege on the Ninjago Monastery.
- Maelstrom (メイルシュトローム) is a very powerful water based attack from Romancing SaGa 2. It is the signature move of Subier. When fought, he always starts the battle with this move, which hits everyone in the party. The only one who is completely immune to this powerful attack is the Nereid.
J. K. Fielding. He's presently in Cryo-suspension at the ARC holding facility in New Hampshire. He was let loose by "Dr. Lenston" on November 17, 2006 as part of a long range plan (not disclosed yet.) He was promptly recaptured (in the parking lot) by a pickup team consisting of Fey, Bladedancer, Carmilla and Beltane.

Because of its relative stability, the Maelstrom has long served as a haven for all manner of corsairs, Renegades, outcasts, exiles and forgotten horrors, from the Traitor Legions to the Eldar's debased kin. At any one time it is estimated by the Deathwatch that at least twenty major Ork infestations or petty pirate kingdoms make their home in the Maelstrom, warring against each other and venturing forth to raid and pillage. Worse things still stalk its radiant darkness. As a Majoris Grade Warp Anomaly, the Maelstrom is a point of constant interface between the real and the unreal, realspace and the Warp overlapping each other like a blurred image. Daemonic incursions and the predations of spectral entities such as Psychenevein and Hull Ghasts are common at the points within the Maelstrom where these realities overlap, while the flotsam of unknown aeons is cast up within its shadowed vortex. Many worlds found whirling within the Maelstrom's depths have been tainted by Chaos in some way, while others have been touched by the lapping of stranger tides yet. Although considered "stable" -- for a Warp Storm at least -- the Maelstrom is not static, and it is known that it periodically waxes and wanes in size and turbulence over time. Nor can any location within it be entirely relied upon to remain where it was last encountered. Over the centuries, a number of savants and Explorators have sought to define some pattern, reason or rhyme to the chaotic fluctuations of the Maelstrom, drawn to its dark mysteries. Most have gone mad or become lost themselves; although those that left decipherable records have often compared its patterns to the breath of gods fitfully slumbering or the encephalographic patterns of a nightmare-riven mind.
With "tentacles" spanning miles, this great whirlpool creates a giant roar that carries for leagues on the open waters. Navigation is perilous even to the most skilled seafarers, but is needful along the inner island trade routes. Every ship's crew that ventures near is in dread of hearing the cry, "Too close! Abandon ship, every man for himself..."
Later, Starbuck talks with Helo, who learns of her strange dreams and suggests she see an oracle. During the discussion, Starbuck catches a glimpse of a little beaten girl in a mirror; it is her younger self. Turning about, the child is not there. Starbuck then heads to Dogsville in the hangar and sees the oracle, Yolanda Brenn. She enters the tent, finding a small winged figurine. Suddenly, Brenn speaks from the shadows, explaining that the figurine is a depiction of the goddess Aurora, who signifies change and allows Starbuck to keep it. Before Starbuck can say much, Brenn says she knows why she came. She says she knows of Leoben and the dreams, repeating word-for-word Leoben's remarks of Starbuck's destiny. She tells Starbuck that it all means that her mother, Socrata Thrace (Dorothy Lyman), is trying to tell her something important. Angry and afraid, Starbuck quickly leaves. Meanwhile, the fleet is undergoing fuel replenishment in the orbit of a gas giant, using the planet's radiation to help hide their presence from the Cylons. After an assignation with her husband, Anders, Starbuck tells him about some of the abuse she endured at the hands of her mother. Starbuck says that her mother had an intense phobia of insects. Starbuck was angry with her mother one day, and hid plastic insects in her mother's shoes. As punishment, her mother slammed Starbuck's hand repeatedly in a door. Later, Starbuck and Hot Dog are on patrol, piloting their Vipers in the clouds of the gas giant. Starbuck catches sight of a Cylon Heavy Raider and gives chase. Because of the radiation, the DRADIS is blind and Hot Dog is unable to get a confirmation of the ship. He soon loses sight of Starbuck, who remains in hot pursuit of the Cylon. In orbit, Admiral Adama aborts the refuelling and orders the fleet to prepare for a jump. Starbuck dogfights the Cylon through the clouds, eventually entering a swirling storm into which the Cylon dives. Strangely, the clouds take on the red, blue and yellow colors of the Eye of Jupiter. Determined to kill the Cylon, Starbuck maintains her pursuit, ignoring the frantic calls from Apollo to pull up before she is crushed by the increasing atmospheric pressure below the cloud deck. After seeing glimpses of her apartment between flashes of lightning and the outline of her mother standing in the room, Starbuck finally comes to her senses and returns to Galactica. Once aboard, she is shocked by Chief Tyrol's claim that her Viper has no visible damage, even though she felt bullet impacts. Likewise, her gun camera footage shows she was firing at nothing. Admiral Adama meets with Apollo, asking his son if he thinks Starbuck is losing her mind. Apollo says he will talk to her and later finds Starbuck sitting in Memorial Hallway, staring at the pictures on the wall. She tells him if she dies first, he is to place her photo right next to the photo of Kat. Apollo promises, but says if he dies first, he wants to be placed next to the photo of Duck and Nora, who were both lost on New Caprica. Starbuck asks his decision about her flight readiness and he gives her some words of encouragement. Meanwhile, she observes dripping candle wax taking the pattern and colors of the Eye. When Starbuck passes Admiral Adama and President Roslin, she gives the figurine of Aurora to Adama, saying it would make a great figurehead for the model sailing ship in his quarters. Preparing for her next flight mission, Starbuck stops herself from entering her Viper cockpit when she sees her younger self sitting in the seat. Visibly shaken, she tells Apollo she is unable to trust herself and cannot fly. Apollo comforts her by offering to be her wingman for the flight. Once more in the sky of the planet, Starbuck catches sight of the Heavy Raider and engages pursuit. Apollo's scopes show no sign of the bogey and he chases after Starbuck, but he quickly loses sight of her. Starbuck again chases the Raider into the swirling storm, where the Cylon turns around and nearly collides with her. Suddenly, the Viper's cockpit canopy is punctured and Starbuck passes out as her fighter begins a wild spin. The cockpit alarms change to the alarm of a clock and the scene changes to Starbuck lying in bed in her apartment on Caprica. She turns the off the clock and immediately finds Leoben sitting by her side. Starbuck believes she is being tricked again and that this is all a dream or some Cylon mind-game. Leoben assures her that he is there to give her a chance at something she avoided in her past. He gently takes her hand and leads her into another scene change, this time it is her mother's apartment. Fearful, Starbuck sees herself, six years prior, entering her mother's kitchen dressed in her fleet officer uniform. Her mother sits reading a paper and smoking a cigarette. Hoping for some congratulations from her mother for having graduated flight school and becoming an officer, Starbuck instead receives an admonishment for graduating 16th in her class. Starbuck tells her she was 16th out of 117 cadets. Angered, her mother tells her she should have been number one. Starbuck retaliates, thinking that her mother is jealous because she never became an officer, despite having served as a decorated Marine Corporal in the first Cylon War. Starbuck then notices a medical paper on the table and grabs it despite her mother's objection. The report says her mother has terminal cancer. Starbuck offers sympathy, but her mother rejects it, saying that Starbuck should have pity for herself. In anger, Starbuck walks out the door, vowing to never return and that her mother can die alone. Starbuck relives the moment and sobs. Leoben then takes her to the bedroom where her mother lies on her deathbed and gives Starbuck another chance to be with her mother as she dies. Starbuck sits next to the bed and notices her mother holds a scrapbook filled with all her childhood drawings, including the swirling Eye. Starbuck takes her mother's hand as she tells her that she is happy she came back. She presses her daughter's hand against her face as she takes her final breath. Starbuck quietly sobs, but is partially relieved to have been at her mother's final moments. Leoben tells her that death is not hard to embrace, and that is the message her mother was trying to tell her all along. Starbuck finally sees Leoben as something else, perhaps not a Cylon, but her spiritual guardian. Leoben says he never claimed he was actually Leoben. In reality, Starbuck finally awakens to the shouts of Apollo begging her to come back. She moves her hand near the ejection seat lever on her Viper before telling him that she is no longer afraid and will "see him on the other side". Apollo demands that she pull up, but she whispers, "just let me go... they're waiting for me". Apollo then sees an explosion as Starbuck's Viper breaks apart and disintegrates. With no sign that she ejected, Apollo cries out in despair. In orbit, Admiral Adama asks if Apollo has visual contact with Starbuck. Apollo replies "negative...she went in". Adama orders search-and-rescue ships to be dispatched, but Apollo tells him that Starbuck is gone; there is nothing to find. There is stunned silence across the bridge. Later, Admiral Adama sits quietly in his quarters looking at the Aurora figurine. He sees that it is a perfect fit for the prow of his sailing ship, but in grief and anger, he smashes the model to pieces and begins to sob.[edit]Deleted scene Starbuck is inspecting her Viper when she finds a red liquid that looks like blood. She asks Tyrol what the substance is, to which he replies that its hydraulic fluid and says all the birds leak fluid. She angrily demands that he fix the problem, but Tyrol says the seals are worn and replacements are scarce. He promises that the problem is minor and her Viper will fly, but Starbuck does not believe him. Apollo arrives and takes Starbuck aside to cool her temper.
- Volume Nine: Maelstrom is the ninth volume of Legacies.
They have many research topics that increase the population caps on their planets, but all their research topics are (by default) twice as expensive as those of the other races, gradually reduced by researching certain specific topics that gradually reduce research costs.
* The Trade Alliance, as suggested by their name, focus on trade. Their economic upgrades are lower on the tech tree than that of most other races, and have cost-reducing topics (similar to that of the Vasari) available at very early points. Their capital ships bristle with strike craft, but their ships have fairly low HP. Though they now possess totally original ship meshes, they initially employed models from the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. Maelstrom features a number of new planet bonuses and types, including two new categories of planet--"High-Tech" and "Giant"--which must be researched before they can be colonized. It also features several new star types. Maelstrom comes in two flavors: "Standard" and "Expansion". The "Standard" mod provides only the features described above. The "Expansion" series adds a number of extra features:
* Dreadnought capital ships are produced from a free, unbuildable structure in orbit of the player's starting planet. They cost 1 Capital Ship Supply, 1 Fleet Supply and no resources, building automatically every 45 minutes. Their Level-6 Ultimate ability upgrades them into a "Super-Dreadnought." upgrading their firepower and resilience but reducing their already-slow movement speed.
* Titan Flagships are produced from a free, unbuildable structure in orbit of the player's starting planet; they cost 1 Capital Ship Supply, 1 Fleet Supply and no resources, but only one can exist at a time. These ships should not be confused with the Titans of the Rebellion expansion, as they do not have to be unlocked; nor with the Flagship concept from the same expansion. While original Titan designs were created for early versions of Maelstrom, they were replaced with Ironclad's Titans once Rebellion was released.
* Asteroids are floating chunks of rock. They appear in orbit of uncolonized planets, supplementing whatever militia is already there. They come in Small (2,000 HP) and Large (4,000 HP) flavors and move at low speeds, but deal collision damage to any ships they manage to catch.
* Pirates have been strengthened in the "Expansion" mod. They now send out smaller attacking parties through phase lanes in addition to their standard attack every fifteen minutes, and can deploy Capital Ships and Squadron Support Cruisers. Maelstrom is available for Diplomacy, Entrenchment and "Vanilla" Sins, and Rebellion. However some crashes with the Stellar Phenomena DLC have been reported.
- Maelstrom is a Female Fury from Apokolips who fell in love with Darkseid. To win his favor, she went to Earth via a Boom Tube to kill Superman and deliver his head to Darkseid. However, she met Supergirl instead, who she fought.
