  • Kahootz is an online and digital multimedia experience with an emphasis on empowering young kids (between the age of 7 and 15) to become their own storytellers. The program features an entirely 3D and interactive world which is shaped by students. The Australian Children's Television foundation developed the project (for primary and secondary school students) to increase visual and media literacy skills and to strengthen technical comprehension. The program claims to enhance: * (i) creative skills * (ii) visual literacy skills * (iii) collaborative learning * (iv) maths and science skills * (v) science and technology skills (see http://www.kahootz.com/kz/) A study cited by the Australian Children's Television Foundation reveals that children tend to respond better to videos/material than to each other. The program has link to 'adult,' new and social media sotware like second life, machinima and youtube. By getting young children to engage with these sort of world-building and narrative activities earlier the program claims to be shaping a new generation of 'prosumers.'http://www.actf.com.au/about_us/pdfs/effects_of_multimedia_on_ed_0506.pdf The Australian Children's Television Foundation has just released a third version of the program. It features sound editing software (similar to pro-tools, garageband or adobe audition), media importing capabilities, new objects and worlds, personalisation of characters with photos and other game/narrative building software which is designed to increase the authorship that students have over the media. In addition to the multimedia world, Kahootz offers an online forum and exhibition space for discourse between students across the country and to publish work and films created in 'Kahootz.' (see http://www.kahootz.com/kz/) In terms of support for both students and teachers there is an extensive network of technical and teachning guides available on the Kahootz website: http://www.kahootz.com (see section: 'How did they do that? http://www.kahootz.com/kz/template/home%2CResources_tips.vm). An edition of the education newsletter published by the ACFT in 2007 explains that teaching guides not only dissect the techniques of multimedia building in Kahootz but also promotes skill development (ACTF, March 2007) The support guides on the Kahootz website also focus on this sense of media-building as community by demonstrating both to teachers and students how students in other classrooms are using the technology http://www.kahootz.com

There users have all their Backgrounds they have obtained. They then click on the Image of your chosen Background and it is put automatically on their Sticker Module. Networkers also have their own Backgrounds. But there are enough stories of changlings, Elvan lovers, half-Elves and fey blood to suggest that they left a legacy behind them. The laws of science and nature say that any fey blood should become more dilute with each generation, but science knows nothing of the ways of magic, and magic is at the core of Elvan existance. And yet it is that, in these technological times, when science is peeling back the mystery and disproving the magic, the magical influence seems to only grow stronger, and there are those born with far more then their fair share of Elvan blood. Often lost and unhappy in these technological times, these new Elves have sought their own little pockets of magic, but it was not until two such, with a special gift for crossing the Mists of Time, find a way to the Otherworld. Following their discovery, the two travellers began to carefully seek out others like themselves. Others who would wish to cross to the other side, and begin life anew. These New Elves are the founders of New Elfhome. There are many great works on the mythos surrounding the mysterious creatures who appear in the mythology of many European cultures, and can be lumped loosely together under the term 'Elves'. I won't attempt to paraphrase them, but instead suggest a little light reading. Try Googling 'Elves', 'celtic', 'sidhe' or 'tuatha de danaan' for a start. Failing that, think along the lines of Tolkein's Elves.

Not all background feats are available to all characters. For example, characters' class and abilities can be limiting the possibilities for selection of backgrounds. All changes applied by background feats to abilities are hard-coded on character. They will be not considered "temporary" by game and therefore: * abilities will be counted for feat prerequisites * they will be not counted against limit of maximum 12 point temporary increase to ability Mithreas: "Stat bonuses are hard (coz there's a cap of +12 and base stats matter for feat reqs) Skill bonuses are soft (because otherwise you'll have problems with levelling up)." After selection of background are all changes applied to character and player is logged out and back in again.
  • When word spread that there were breaks spotted in the Rad-Fog around the Dead Mist Valley most figured it wasn’t worth the risk. Scraps of Pre-Fall maps didn’t show much in the way of industry or cities in the valley, and the chances that anything worthwhile survived seemed too small. But for Pure Blood Katherine ‘Kitty’ Wendt it was an ideal opportunity. So she put together a team of Merican rustlers, outlaws, and gunman, started calling them ‘settlers’ and headed into the unknown intent on founding her own town, where she could not only increase her fortune, but also exert the kind of control she always thought was her due. After a few months of scouting, they chanced into a group of structures, still standing and in decent repair. The area was surprisingly rich in edible plants, game, and even better than expected scrap. Best of all, the springs that appeared and disappeared around the camp were untainted. These fine features, combined with the growing restlessness of her crew to be done with the trail, convinced Kitty that this was the site of her new town, Wendton, though most of the crew quietly refers to it as “Wet-town.” Not long after, the settlers learned why the buildings were in such comparatively good repair. A tribe of Natural Ones, the Wonteens, regularly use and maintain the buildings as part of their nomadic cycle. At first the Wonteens tried to demand the settlers clear out, explaining that this was their home, offering to help protect the settlers while they established another settlement elsewhere. Generations of isolation, however, had allowed the dialect of the Wonteens to drift, and Kitty used this to rather willfully “not understand” their requests, even when the tribe indicated that they would be willing to sell their houses and leave peacefully. Eventually, things came to blows. The tribe was more numerous than the settlers, but the settler’s technology, armor, and better fortified position gave them the edge. The Wonteens were forced to pull back, and resort to raids. This lasted until Kitty’s men managed to capture a large raiding party led by Chief Star Badge’s son, Wave Runner. The tribe stopped open hostilities when Kitty threatened to torture and kill the party in such a way that they would never return. The Chief believes that his people are being held captive inside the town, when in reality Kitty sold them to slave traders shortly after striking the deal, as she thought it would be easier than guarding them and it made a little extra profit. The Wontees now stay in the area year round, keeping an eye on the settler, looking for their people, and trying to make life uncomfortable without open hostility. With this extra threat, Kitty decided to start spreading the word for more settlers to come join her, figuring more guns the better.

Salvatore’s most recent original hardcover, The Two Swords, Book III of The Hunter’s Blade Trilogy (October 2004) debuted at # 1 on The Wall Street Journal best-seller list and at # 4 on The New York Times best-seller list. His books have been translated into numerous foreign languages including German, Italian, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Turkish, Croatian, Bulgarian, Yiddish, Spanish, Russian, Polish, Czech, and French. Salvatore’s first published novel, The Crystal Shard from TSR in 1988, became the first volume of the acclaimed Icewind Dale Trilogy and introduced an enormously popular character, the dark elf Drizzt Do’Urden. Since that time, Salvatore has published numerous novels for each of his signature multi-volume series including The Dark Elf Trilogy, Paths of Darkness, The Hunter’s Blades Trilogy, and The Cleric Quintet. His love affair with fantasy, and with literature in general, began during his sophomore year of college when he was given a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings as a Christmas gift. He promptly changed his major from computerscience to journalism. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from Fitchburg State College in 1981, then returned for the degree he always cherished, the Bachelor of Arts in English. He began writing seriously in 1982, penning the manuscript that would become Echoes of the Fourth Magic. Salvatore held many jobs during those first years as a writer, finally settling in (much to our delight) to write full time in 1990. The R.A. Salvatore Collection has been established at his alma mater, Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, containing the writer’s letters, manuscripts, and other professional papers. He is in good company, as The Salvatore Collection is situated alongside The Robert Cormier Library, which celebrates the writing career of the co-alum and esteemed author of young adult books. Salvatore is an active member of his community and is on the board of trustees at the local library in Leominster, Massachusetts. He has participated in several American Library Association regional conferences, giving talks on themes including “Adventure fantasy” and “Why young adults read fantasy.” Salvatore himself enjoys a broad range of literary writers including James Joyce, Mark Twain, Geoffrey Chaucer, Shakespeare, Dante, and Sartre. He counts among his favorite genre literary influences Ian Fleming, Arthur Conan Doyle, Fritz Leiber, and of course, J.R.R. Tolkien. Born in 1959, Salvatore is a native of Massachusetts and resides there with his wife Diane, and their three children, Bryan, Geno, and Caitlin. The family pets include three Japanese Chins, Oliver, Artemis and Ivan, and four cats including Guenhwyvar. When he isn't writing, Salvatore chases after his three Japanese Chins, takes long walks, hits the gym, and coaches/plays on a fun-league softball team that includes most of his family. His gaming group still meets on Sundays to play. This is from www.rasalvatore.com
