Formed at HC Ambrì-Piotta, Celio made his professional debuts in 1982 in the NLA with his mother club. He joined Kloten in 1986 and became four times Swiss champion with the club in the 1990's. Celio was a member of the Swiss National Team at the 1988 Olympics, where he registered a goal and an assist in six games, and at the 1992 Olympics, where he scored once in seven games. He also took part in eight editions of the World Championships.
