Heinzen joined Dreamworks in 2003, working in visual development or production illustration, supplying art depicting character, location, and layout concepts among others. He filled those duties on Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third, Madagascar and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Megamind, and Mr. Peabody and Sherman. He worked on assorted shorts and was art director for The Adventures of Puss in Boots series on Netflix. For video games, Heinzen worked on concepts and character designs for Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and others. In addition to illustrating character tie-in books, Heinzen supplied the art for the 2012 picture book Escaping Titanic: A Young Girl's True Story of Survival.
