The Sith were led by Exar Kun, who enslaved the Massassi to work for him and harnessed the dark power of the ancient Massassi Temples on Yavin IV. The Great Sith War was long and hard for the Republic, and left the government in a weakened state that the Mandalorians took advantage of in the Mandalorian Wars. The Sith were believed to be wiped out in the Great Sith War, but later Revan and Malak were corrupted and ressurected the Sith Empire, sparking the Jedi Civil War from the seeds left behind by the Dark Lords of the Sith of the Great Sith War.
