abstract
  • Homelite is a USA-based manufacturer and marketer of outdoor power equipment, including chainsaws, power washers, lawn tractors, tillers, leaf blowers, trimmers, etc... It was founded in Port Chester, New York, USA by Charles H. Ferguson in 1921. Originally called Home Electric Lighting Company, it was later shortened to just Homelite. Textron purchased Homelite, and later combined it with their Jacobsen division, becoming Homelite Jacobsen. Textron later sold the Homelite brand to John Deere, where it was joined with their turf and lawn businesses. John Deere sold it in 2001 to the TTI Group of China. Early Homelite lawn and garden tractors were built by the Allis-Chalmers Outdoor Power Equipment Division in South Carolina; later, after Allis restructured its Outdoor Power Equipment Division and terminated the production of its own line of lawn and garden tractors, Homelite tractors (as well as Allis-Chalmers lawn and garden tractors) were produced by Simplicity. At the time, Simplicity was a wholly owned subsidiary of Allis-Chalmers with its own separate production facilities and staff.
