| abstract | - Hope Citadel was a small, secret Peace Brigade spaceport/fortress in the arctic wilderness of Centares. It was established as a headquarters for a Peace Brigade fleet which could be used to destroy the planet's defenses, leaving it open to Yuuzhan Vong attack. The base was commanded by Colonel Krindwes and his liaison, His Eminence Kraav Ymbi. The spaceport was camouflaged to blend into its icy environs. It was mostly located underground and was immune to all but the heaviest orbital bombardment. Approaching the base by air was forbidden. As a result, Commodore Esai Greevis sent a team to infiltrate Hope Citadel, known as the "Gruesome Gackles." They were led to the spaceport by a guide who had discovered its location, Observer Wiil-Hur-Krein. He took them there in an underground tunnel via landspeeder; on their trip, they were joined by Peace Brigadier Turmo. Colonel Krindwes assigned the Gruesome Gackles to take out the planetary turbolaser. Instead, SpecForce members of the Gackles planted explosives at the Citadel's foundations while other Gackles, actually Sante Wing pilots, saved the turbolaser by attacking their "fellow" Peace Brigade cloud cars. The Gackles blew up Hope Citadel, but not before most of the Peace Brigade ships had launched and engaged the New Republic fleet in combat.
