abstract
  • Scholarism(Chinese:學民思潮) is a pressure group against the planned "moral and national" education curriculum put forward by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong. Formed under the name "Scholarism — The Alliance Against Moral & National Education" in 2011, the group consists mainly of secondary school students. According to the organisers, their protests, press conferences and demonstrations forced the government postpone the commencement of the "moral and national education", which had been scheduled to commence in full scale in September 2011. In additional to its concerns about the educational reform, the group began to participate in other social activities in 2012, such as June 4 Masscare memorials and the march demanding a thorough investigation into activist Li Wangyang's suspicious death. The group is known for being one of the few organisations that protested outside the Central Government Liaison Office after the July 1 march of 2012.
