The County Coroner determines the cause and manner in which death has occurred by preforming examinations of the deceased, taking biological samples for forensic evaluation, conducting investigations and having an autopsy to be conducted when necessary. Coroners, in Alabama, are one of the highest law enforcement officials within their respected counties. The Coroner is the only official authorized by law to arrest the Sheriff of his county.
