  • Breeders are rounded guppies with physically female traits. In Adventure Mode, they appear in Tank 4. They are colored similarly to regular guppies and have a larger, round abdomen. There are three stages of growth from baby to medium to adult. Unlike most fish, they do not drop money but instead give birth to baby guppies.
  • A breeder was someone who cultivated new breeds of animal or plant life. Prior to 2372, Tuvok bred prized Vulcan orchid. Upon hearing this, Neelix realized they had something in common, as he bred orchids, too, although his were for culinary purposes. (VOY: "Tattoo")
  • Virus.Multi.Breeder.5152 or Breeder is a memory-resident encrypted companion virus.
  • After a woman claims that her last memory is of being pregnant and in the back of a taxi, the Detectives have to find a missing baby.
  • The Breeder is a monster appearing in Obscure II created by the genetic mutation of the Mortifilia.
  • The Breeder is a fish related to Prego. It eats regular fish food like a Guppy. In Adventure Mode, you will start with one Breeder in Tank 4 and a new one can be bought for $200. When the Breeder becomes medium-sized, it will start giving birth to Guppies. In Virtual Tank, sometimes there will be a Breeder on sale for 5000 shells. The Breeder can only give birth when full-sized this time, and will give a free Guppy (it is named after the Breeder, but with "JR." at the end) with the same traits (example: musical breeder will give a musical guppy), as long as you have space. She will not give birth to more guppies until she gives out the free one.
  • Breeders are Cho-ja males constantly mounted back upon the thorax of a cho-ja queen. They are stocky in appearance, with a cho-ja soldier-like body and the small head of a cho-ja worker. They rock over the Queen with a rhythmic motion. Each mates with her for hours until exhausted and replaced by another.
  • The breeder is a creature in Might & Magic: Heroes VI. An Elite member of the Inferno faction, its upgraded version is the breeder mother.
  • The Breeder job is the Summoner class continuation for the Devarian Guide. This job, as the described nature of the Deva suggests, mainly focuses on heals and buffs for pets. With useful buffs and the varied gameplay based on the different Class-Pet combinations, Breeders are a very popular job in this game. __TOC__
  • Breeders are monsters with the ability to replicate. Unlike summoners, they can only create one type of monster (themselves), and can only create them one at a time. While all breeders create further monsters of the same species, there are two ways that such monsters can breed: either by spawning separate monsters of the same species, or actually duplicating themselves. When a monster duplicates ("The duplicates and another appears!"), its own HP is halved and the new monster is created with the same amount of HP (but the usual amount of maximum HP). When a monster spawns another ("The spawns another !"), the spawner doesn't lose any HP and the spawned monster is created with its HP at full.
  • Breeder is a slang term (either joking or derogatory) used to describe heterosexuals, primarily by homosexuals. It is drawn from the fact that homosexual sexual activity does not normally lead to reproduction, whereas heterosexual sex can, with implicit mocking by connotation of animal husbandry, the original usage of the word. The use of "breeder" in this way is not new. It appears, for example, in Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal, in which Swift repeatedly uses "breeder" to refer to human breeding:
  • The Breeder is a rachni queen, genetically engineered by the Reapers, which is creating rachni troops for its masters. It is encountered by Commander Shepard's team while investigating a possible rachni presence on Utukku. The Breeder only appears if the rachni queen was killed by Shepard on Noveria in 2183. The Breeder is entrenched deep within the tunnels on Utukku, guarded by Reaper technology and barriers controlled by local nodes. It speaks through the mouths of the dead krogan scout team, many of whom are suspended on the walls by the same webbing encountered on the way into the central chamber.
  • "Breeders" was a pejorative name applied to a race of humans on the planet Euronda by their enemies, the Eurondans. It is known that they at least had racial phenotypes that correspond to Caucasians and African-Americans on Earth, but it was stated that they are made of "all shapes and sizes, and all colors," so it can be supposed that their population is as diverse as modern Earth's North America. Breeders possess the technology to create unmanned recon drones, as well as advanced, manned bombers. At the time of SG-1's arrival, Breeders were winning the war and controlled most of the planet.

(SG1: "The Other Side")
  • "Breeders" was a pejorative name applied to a race of humans on the planet Euronda by their enemies, the Eurondans. It is known that they at least had racial phenotypes that correspond to Caucasians and African-Americans on Earth, but it was stated that they are made of "all shapes and sizes, and all colors," so it can be supposed that their population is as diverse as modern Earth's North America. They were alleged to have bred freely with various members of their population with no regard for what the Eurondans considered "genetic purity". For this reason they posed a threat to the Eurondans, who possessed a Hitleresque ideology of a genetically pure race. Led by Alar's father, the Eurondans conceived of a plot to exterminate their enemy by filling the atmosphere with poisonous gas while they hid in an underground facility. But the Breeders discovered and thwarted their plan, and a war between the two peoples began. Breeders possess the technology to create unmanned recon drones, as well as advanced, manned bombers. At the time of SG-1's arrival, Breeders were winning the war and controlled most of the planet. When they learned of the Eurondan's ideology and attempted genocide, SG-1 aided the Breeders in assaulting the Eurondan bunker. With the Eurondan hideout fatally damaged, it is likely that the Breeders had no problem winning the decades-long war following SG-1's departure and Alar's apparent death. (SG1: "The Other Side")

Breeding can be detected on levels by the sound the monster makes: either 'burping' (monster spawned) or 'popping' (monster split). One major difference between breeders and summoners is that breeders can be sterilized - i. e. kept from replicating - using a scroll of vermin control, or a prayer. Note that gremlins — which replicate only when being splashed with water, for instance from a water trap — are not true summoners nor are they true breeders; true summoners and breeders require no outside influence to create more monsters. They are included here for sake of completeness. It should also be noted that duplicated gremlins are considered summoned -- not bred — creatures by the game.
It speaks through the mouths of the dead krogan scout team, many of whom are suspended on the walls by the same webbing encountered on the way into the central chamber. The Breeder is physically identical to the "true" rachni queen; however, its mind has been twisted as a result of its unnatural creation, causing it to refer to itself as a "monster" and to speak in the first-person singular rather than the plural. The Breeder is also much more insistent that it be spared, offering to spawn new children loyal to Shepard's cause in exchange for freedom. Unlike the queen, which will calmly accept its fate if left behind, the Breeder will become enraged and scream for its minions to kill Shepard should the Commander choose not to spare it. Also, unlike the first rachni queen, the Breeder will prove untrustworthy if set free by Shepard, and result in heavy losses to the war effort.

"Breeder" can also be used as a derogatory term by child-free people of any sexual orientation to refer to parents who focus on their children and abandon their previous friends and lifestyle, or to women who give birth to many children. The phrases "breeder, not parent" (BNP) or "parent, not breeder" (PNB) are used by some childfree communities to differentiate between positive and negative parenting. A perfect modern day illustration for this term can be observed on the popular television series Jon & Kate Plus 8. It is a reality television show produced in the United States and airs on TLC. Exhibit A, Jon and Kate has a family of a set of twin girls and a set of sextuplets, from the show's episodes it appears as if they have devoted their lives to their children and changing diapers. From past episodes it seems as if their social behavior matches the textbook case of the term "Breeder". It can be concluded that their social circle is solely pertaining to their children and their obliged relatives. The use of "breeder" in this way is not new. It appears, for example, in Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal, in which Swift repeatedly uses "breeder" to refer to human breeding: Swift's piece was meant as black humor, and refers to the breeding of children for cannibalism. Some parents resent being referred to as "breeders", and feel that the word unduly reduces the process of child-raising to animal husbandry. The term was part of a 2006 controversy in the heavily gay resort town of Provincetown, Massachusetts, when petitioners against same-sex marriage whose identity was published complained of having been called "breeders". Another slang term referring to heterosexuals is "egg packer", which mocks the connotation of the slang term for homosexuals, "fudge packer." Other slang terms that revolve around "breeder" are "egg hatcher", in which a woman is concerned about her biological clock and believes she may no longer be able to or never get pregnant. Slang terms affiliated to men are "bloodline survivalists"; men whose desire to marry or who see their marriage largely to father a son in order to continue their family bloodlines. "Bloodline survivalism" has been a common theme in only sons, kings, czars, and those who must pass something of value by dynastic succession only. Arguably the most famous example was King Henry VIII of England, who is largely remembered for marrying multiple times for the purpose of siring a male heir to the throne.
  • Breeders are Cho-ja males constantly mounted back upon the thorax of a cho-ja queen. They are stocky in appearance, with a cho-ja soldier-like body and the small head of a cho-ja worker.
