Cerró las llaves del agua y tomó la bata que colgaba afuera de la regadera, segundos después estaba recostada en su cama con quitando el cabello mojado de su rostro y tratando de buscar una respuesta que estaba en la puerta de su casa, literalmente. Con la poca energía que le quedaba, el vampiro se había arrastrado para subir los tres escalones que lo separaban de la puerta, cuando llegó se recargó en ella y empezó a golpearla con la cabeza en un desesperado intento de no dejar que su existencia se esfumara pero estaba casi seguro de que ocurriría, en caso de que Celeste abriera la puerta y lo viera ahí tirado llamaría a una ambulancia cuyos ocupantes no harían mas que evitar las hemorragias y llevarlo a un hospital, un hospital para humanos donde no podrían hacer nada para ayudarlo; a pesar de que pensaba esto siguió golpeando la puerta en espera de su futuro, se conformaba con ver los ojos de esa humana una última vez. Sentía que se quedaba dormida y esperaba que eso sucediera, no le importaba despertar al otro día con un resfriado, solo quería dejar de sentirse así, dejar de ver eso. Pero unos rítmicos golpes avivaron un poco más sus sentidos, aguzó el oído hasta percatarse de que los golpes eran contra su puerta, daba igual, a esa hora probablemente sería un vagabundo buscando comida o unos niños haciendo bromas, no soltaría el delgado hilo que la conducía a Morfeo. Pero finalmente lo perdió gracias a los golpes que subían periódicamente de volumen, irritada por eso, se levantó, hizo un nudo en el cinturón de su bata, la única prenda que cubría su cuerpo, tomó el teléfono y caminó hacia la puerta. —Debe estar dormida— Pensó el vampiro y dio el último golpe a la puerta y justo en ese momento, escuchó algo que reconocería hasta en el lecho de muerte, escuchó la voz de Celeste mientras abría la puerta un poco —Si no dejan de golpear mi puerta llamaré a la policía— Estaba enfurecida y eso demostró con la amenaza que gritó mientras abría la puerta tanto como la cadena se lo permitía y apuntaba hacia afuera el teléfono como si de un arma se tratara o le diera más fuerza a su ultimátum. Empujó la puerta para cerrarla y poderle quitar la cadena enseguida volvió abrirla y se tiró de rodillas. Después del grito de Celeste, el vampiro giró la cabeza y la vio adentro de la casa volteando para todos lados con el teléfono en la mano hasta que bajó la mirada y lo vio, un gran e inexplicable alivio recorrió su malherido cuerpo y pronunció el nombre que tanto le pasaba por la mente: Celeste. Lo intentó levantar pero era muy pesado para ella así que lo arrastró hasta el sillón y le ayudó a sentarse, sin saber que hacer se sentó a su lado y le tomó la mano. Ahora sentado en el sillón con ella al lado, el vampiro estaba ante una encrucijada, se había dicho que no la convertiría pero si no la mordía moriría. Así que usando un poco la telepatía que había logrado crear entre ellos en las últimas semanas, le susurró que necesitaba sangre y ella como en trance simplemente se acercó a él y apretó su mano. Todo era parecido a sus sueños pero estaba casi segura de que no lo era, casi segura. Sintió que necesitaba hacer algo para ayudarlo y lo único que se le ocurrió fue acercar su rostro al de él como si fuera a recibir un beso en la mejilla y apretó un poco la mano ensangrentada que sostenía entre las suyas. Recordó todo lo que había pasado hasta el momento de su desmayo y se llevó las manos al cuello sintiendo la evidencia, pero a pesar de todo eso no sentía miedo, al contrario, estaba feliz. Después de una larga y merecida ducha el vampiro estaba totalmente recuperado, se secó y salió hacia la recamara con una toalla en la cintura; vio a Celeste, recostada, con cara adormilada y brotó todo lo que sentía por ella, tiró la toalla al suelo y se subió a la cama, ella lo recibió con una sonrisa y lo abrazó, el vampiro metió sus largos dedos por entre la bata y la abrió por completo, la besó cariñosamente en los labios y cuando ella sintió ese pequeño pero delicioso dolor en el cuello de nuevo, se volvieron uno solo. But Cliff King, who saw himself as the new head of the cartel, only to be elbowed aside by Burnett, began his own takeover by convincing everyone Burnett was unreliable, being addicted to drugs and alcohol, and got the ear of Celeste, whose own "needs" were being foresaken by Burnett, and she arranged to lure Burnett into a car bomb, but she warned Burnett at the last minute but the car exploded, injuring Burnett. When Burnett confronted Celeste about her role in the bombing, she admitted it was King that planned it and Burnett was about to assault her when his Sonny Crockett memories and personality returned and he could not do so, instead taking Celeste in his arms.
