Randy has played with a wide range of teams and leagues in his 12 years of professional Hockey. His resume includes the Corpus Christi Rayz, New Mexico Scorpions and Columbus Cottonmouths all of the Central Hockey League (CHL). The Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League (UHL). The Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL). The New Mexico Scorpions of the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL). The Lakeland Prowlers of the defunct Southern Hockey League (SHL). The Raleigh Icecaps of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) as well as some time in the Elite European Leagues. All together giving him 328 goals and 567 assists in 751 career games. Randy also played hockey at Elmira College for four years. Randy recorded back to back 100 point seasons with the Columbus Cottenmouths in 1996-97 and 1997-98. He also has his hockey stick inside the Pro Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada. On December 31, 1999 in a game versus El Paso Buzzards, he scored the final professional goal scored in the millennium while with the New Mexico Scorpions. Randy has spent three seasons as a player assistant for the Elmira Jackals in the United Hockey League before becoming the assistant coast of the New Mexico Scorpions in 2006-07. Randy then was named head coach for two seasons. Where he posted a 61-57-10 record and led the Scorpions to the second round of the CHL playoffs in 2007-08. On June 29, 2009 Randy Murphy was hired as the third head coach in history of the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).
