Ayers has worked for several companies, including Pacific Vision, Cinovation Studios, Spectral Motion, Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc., and Rhythm & Hues. Among his credits are character designs for films such as Ivan Reitman's science fiction comedy Evolution (2001); Barry Sonnenfeld's science fiction sequel Men in Black II (2002); the fantasy film The Cat in the Hat (2003); Joe Dante's Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003); David Zucker's Scary Movie 3 (2003); the science fiction film AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) and its 2007 sequel, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem; and the Marvel Comics adaptations Fantastic Four (2005), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006, starring Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen, and Kelsey Grammer), and Iron Man (2008, featuring Bill Smitrovich and Faran Tahir). More recently, he was a concept designer on the Marvel Comics adaptation The Incredible Hulk (2008) and a character designer on the upcoming action film Jonah Hex (2010). In 2005 he was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, a form of blood cancer, but was successfully treated. During this time he created "The Daily Zoo", an animal sketchbook with a foreword by J.J. Abrams, published in November 2008 by Design Studio Press. [2] A second volume is planned for a 2009 release. Ayers previously worked as illustrator and designer for the books Worlds: A Mission of Discovery (2004), Alien vs. Predator: The Creature Effects of ADI (2004), Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem – Inside the Monster Shop (2007), and Cosmic Motors: Spaceships, Cars, and Pilots of Another Galaxy (2007).
