Ovviamente stiamo parlando di un videogioco di ruolo MMO (Massive Multiplayer Orgiastic), dove migliaia di giocatori possono vivere l'esperienza di una vera e propria Via Crucis a stazioni (chiamate Epic Book) attraverso un mondo vasto millemila miglia quadrate completamente ispirato alle opere esistenti (e non) di Tolkien, la Terra di Mezzo (con nuove location che lo scrittore non ha mai descritto, ideato o anche solo immaginato). Lo scopo del gioco è quello di farvi strada tra migliaia di giocatori in queste pericolose lande con i mezzi più sleali possibili per raggiungere il massimo stadio di potenza, imbrogliando i giocatori più creduloni, fingendosi amici per poi sfruttarli in maniera indiscriminata ed eliminarli nel modo più veloce possibile quando si ottiene l'equipaggiamento completo di radiance, su LOTRO non c'è futuro per deboli niubbi, la regola è inchiappa o sarai inchiappato. Ah, ci sarebbe anche da eliminare un certo Signore Oscuro e le sue legioni, ma non è rilevante.
