The question of whether the turbolift was empty or occupied could be determined from the same station. (ENT: "Shockwave") In vessels of the 23rd century, turbolift elevators could be controlled and regulated by the communications station on the ship's Bridge. (TOS: "The Naked Time" ) In an hallucination experienced by Ensign Hoshi Sato in 2152, she imagined turbolift control being non-responsive to repeated attempts she made to press a button on the control panel in one of the turbolifts aboard Enterprise NX-01. (ENT: "Vanishing Point") Captain Jean-Luc Picard attempted to contact turbolift control along with main engineering and security when Q transported the bridge crew of the Enterprise-D to an unknown world in 2364, leaving him alone on the main bridge, suspended in time.
