Oswald fared little better in six Cup starts in 1979, again DNFing out of every single race. But again Oswald still managed to collect respectable results, earning an average finish of 25.5 that year after finishing no worse than 28th at North Wilkesboro. His best runs that year were a 22nd at Dover and pair of 25ths at Nashville and Pocono. Oswald's final two races came in 1980. He started it off solid at College Station, starting last (31st) but driving to a solid 20th place finish. Furthermore, it was Oswald's only career race that he was running at the finish. However, he struggled to a 38th at Pocono to round out his career.
