| abstract | - Cheb Packer was a boyfriend of Kathryn Janeway during her senior year at the Academy Institute. He was described as being extremely handsome, but also incredibly arrogant. Janeway's later boyfriend Mark Johnson once suggested that Packer would have made a great salesman, had the Federation still encouraged such a profession. Towards the end of the school year, Packer, Janeway, and a group of other students snuck into the Magruder Mansion in Ohio, where they encountered a deranged old woman. Janeway insisted on helping the woman, even though it would get her group in trouble, and as a result, the other students were penalized. Shortly afterwards, Packer failed to gain admission into Starfleet Academy, for which he blamed Janeway, and they broke up. (VOY novel: Mosaic)
