Chris, sailing in a rowboat into the Florian Triangle after departing from Aspara, to become a pirate and gather his crew. The search for a ship and the first four members of his crew is what begins the story, and as a direct result, has the saga revolve around his adventures in the Grand Line. While the saga begins with Chris sailing on his own, and in the meantime, meeting and fighting a sea king, the Marines and a crew of pirates in the South Blue, it ultimately focuses on his desire and search for a worthy pirate ship, and along the way, some reliable crewmates to call his own. In the process, Chris enlists three other people to be his crewmates; Spike, Timber and Rose Glory. Additionally, while starting out with a bounty of File:Bsymbol.gif10,000,000, his actions early on increase it to 50,000,000, and give Spike his first bounty of File:Bsymbol.gif30,000,000. Chris also manages to meet and befriend the first of his many close, beloved allies and friends, Monkey D. Lucy in the meantime. Likewise, during the saga's third story arc, a second main protagonist is introduced; Ika and his bounty hunter crew, the Ika Bounty Hunters. Upon the conclusion of The Jolly Pirates' travels within the Grand Line and Calm Belt, the saga shifts focus to Ika and his bounty hunters; revealing events such as their backstories, how the crew was formed, and how they arrived in Water 7.
