His perhaps most notable impact on history was his raising two Bhaalspawn children, one of whom especially played a crucial part in the fulfilling of Alaundo's prophecy of the Bhaalspawn (detailed in the Baldur's Gate series) as an adult, being the main protagonist of the stories. According to the novelizations of the videogames, this Bhaalspawn was Abdel Adrian. The other, who was also involved but played a lesser role, was Imoen.

When you begin the game, you are told that Gorion is waiting to leave Candlekeep with you. You are instructed to gather some supplies and protection, then meet him at the steps of the Library. Shortly after leaving you are ambushed (in a cutscene) by an "Armored Figure" that we later learn to be Sarevok, accompanied by Tamoko, two Ogres and two Thugs, one of which does some minor damage to you before Gorion tells you to hide and attempts to fight them off. Gorion is murdered in front of your eyes, and so ends the Baldur's Gate Prologue. In Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Gorion also carries/wears a Belt of Antipode. You then begin Chapter 1 of the game.

Gorion's friends among the Harpers included Elminster Aumar, Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun, Khalid and Jaheira, whom he instructed the protagonist to seek out the last two in case they should become separated from him.
