  • The USS White Sands (NAR-0002) was a Federation starship operated by Starfleet. In 2364, this starship was commanded by G. Harry Stein. In 2364, this ship received a mission order about the Rigel/Andor subspace relays from Commodore Peter Bryce at the Starfleet Advanced Technologies Division. The orders concerned the subspace relay stations along the Rigel/Andor line. Any stations found to be performing below STFL spec 0473/111243 should be taken off-line and repaired in place. Captain Stein was instructed to repeat this procedure on all relays in the lane until the system was within 7% of rated performance. At the end of that year, Data read these orders and several others to investigate claims of a conspiracy among the highest members of Starfleet Command. (TNG: "Conspiracy" , okudagram) This starship was only mentioned in writing. The name of the starship was an in-joke reference to the White Sands Missile Range where G. Harry Stine, science and science fiction writer and model rocketry founding father, began working after his graduation. Stine also founded the National Association of Rocketry (NAR), explaining another in-joke in this LCARS display.
