The group was formed first in 2539, due to increasing needs for higher protection of high-ranked chairmen and other bureaucrats. In 2551, their newest attachment, SPARTAN-G282 joined the group. ONI frequently sent the whole group on private ONI missions. Later in the 25th, 26th, and even 27th centuries more SPARTAN-IIs and -IIIs were added to the group, and they were given more training than usual SPARTANs. In 2551, the seven-Spartan ARGONAUT group set out on a mission to capture the Prophet of Lies, ironically a close friend of the Prophet of Truth. They travelled on the UNSC destroyer the Caesar, which, coated with stealth ablative coating, and underneath Covenant religious paint, docked onto a nearby Covenant space station near the Covenant's Holy City. They were many times attempted to be contacted by additional Covenant fleets around the disguised Caesar. The Prophets were immediately alerted and evacuated, even though they were mostly confident that nobody else except the Demons could infiltrate their "city." The SPARTANs unboarded
